Green Bay's New Smooth Jazz FM

I've ID'd several more outstanding tracks played by Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7 & 97.3 FM.

None of these fine songs are played by Broadcast Architecture's vanilla/bland/cookie-cutter playlist!! ??? :-[ :'( :(

(Title - ARTIST - CD)

AFTER THE FALL – INCOGNITO - 100 DEGREES AND RISING

Soul Temptation - BRYAN SAVAGE - SOUL TEMPTATION

EUROPEAN COMFORT – GOTA - ITS SO DIFFERENT HERE

LASTING IMPRESSION- JAMES VARGAS-JAMES VARGAS

MYSTICAL - SPECIAL EFX - SWEET SURRENDER

I continue to ID specific songs like this in an effort to now identify/differentiate JSJ's clear superiority to the likes of its inferior syndicated competitor, BA.

DoubleD since you care so much ask them to hire you so you can change it yourself. Whatever floats your boat as I think WJZX is fine except they need local DJs.

You're joking, right?

WJZX decided to drink the Kepler/BA Kool-Aid, so they've been "convinced" to use BA's excessively overresearched version of SJ. Unlike JSJ, Kepler/BA Kool-Aid drinkers don't listen to their listeners whe it comes to their playlist!!

To quote Another Cat (and I couldn't agree more)...

"Kepler & Co. could sell a 5 layer chocolate brownie/icing cake to a diabetic and when the diabetic came out of his coma he'd thank Kepler for the enlightenment that comes with a near death experience. Gotta give them credit for knowing how to spin a sales pitch."

Unfort. KIJZ 105.9 in Portland changed and WSMJ 104.3 I hear is going to drop smooth jazz as well. Double D, have you ever heard of or listened to Sunset Jazz? I don't think that internet only station is on anymore but they had the best selection of smooth jazz. Smoothjazz.com is also good too - if only the regular smooth jazz stations had jazz that sounded that good!

I think I mainly dislike Jones's SJ because of the many commercials they have. I will have to take a listen to see how good the quality of their music is since it's been awhile.

Yes! Double D! The songs you are ranting about are awesome. I haven't heard Fluff but I know the rest.

Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7 & 97.3 FM continues to play Fluff's "LATE NIGHT SESSIONS" (just played @7:12: 21 PM CST), a tremendous song never to be heard on BA (Bland Audio) affiliates like WJZX-FM, or most any other commercial SJ station for that matter. This is, again, what really sets JSJ far ahead of their competition, their willingness to play songs like Fluff's "LATE NIGHT SESSIONS" (clip can be heard here)...

Jones continues to impress, especially on a comparative basis with Kepler's BA (Bland Audio), when they play classic SJ favorites like this...

Song - AFTERGLOW
Artist - CRAIG CHAQUICO
CD - SHADOW AND LIGHT

When I hear JSJ play songs like the aforementioned AFTERGLOW, it proves that there is no "comparison" between these 2 SJ syndicators in the true sense of the word, only stark "contrasts".

I'll have more to say on the comparison between the 2, time permitting.

A few more outstanding songs that are played by JSJ that are nowhere to be found on Kepler's BA...

AFTERGLOW - CRAIG CHAQUICO - SHADOW AND LIGHT
EUROPEAN UNDERGROUND - KENNY BLAKE - AN INTIMATE AFFAIR
TELL ME ABOUT IT - RICHARD ELLIOT - JUMPIN OFF
MAYBE TONIGHT? - NESTOR TORRES - SIN PALABRAS (WITHOUT WORDS)
VONNIE - BASS – X (BASE-x) - HEIR WAVE
FRESH OUT OF THE BOX - MR. GONE - FRESH OUT OF THE BOX
MANHATTAN GROOVE - MARK GORBULEW - RENDEZVOUS LOUNGE 2
TINSEL TOWN - RONNY JORDAN - THE QUIET REVOLUTION
KINGS - KEVIN TONEY - RETROSPECTIVES
IF YOU KNEW - WALTER BEASLEY - FOR YOUR PLEASURE
Precious Moments - Walter Beasley - Go With The Flow
Fire Of Love - Gabriela Anders - Wanting
MIDNIGHT IN MANHATTAN - PETER WHITE - PERFECT MOMENT
INDIAN SUMMER - CHRIS BOTTI - A THOUSAND KISSES DEEP
Summer Soulstice - Exodus Quartet - Rare Requests Vol. 4
OPEN YOUR HEART - NITE FLYTE - ASCENSION
TAKE ME - EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE
HEALING HANDS - KEN NAVARRO - SLOW DANCE
THE WAY SHE LOOKED (AT ME) - BOB BALDWIN - STANDING TALL
3-DAY WEEKEND - JEFF KASHIWA - SIMPLE TRUTH
HIGHLAND PARK - JOE MCBRIDE - KEYS TO YOUR HEART
ARE YOU MINE - PETER WHITE – CONFIDENTIAL
FOREVER, FOREVER - KEIKO MATSUI - FULL MOON AND THE SHRINE
HYPNOTIC - PAUL TAYLOR – HYPNOTIC
IF ONLY IN YOUR DREAMS - BILL EVANS – PUSH
BREAKIN OUT - DARREN RAHN - ONCE IN A LIFETIME
AFTER HOURS - JOYCE COOLING - PLAYING IT COOL
POSITIVE VIBE - PAMELA WILLIAMS – ELIXIR
FLY AWAY WITH ME - PAMELA WILLIAMS - SWEET SAXATIONS
IN THE SKY TODAY - KEN NAVARRO - ALL THE WAY
STAY- SIMPLY RED – STAY
THINK OF U - DAVID PACK - THE SECRET OF MOVIN ON
SUNNY- JUSTIN YOUNG - ON THE WAY
BREAKING OUT - NORMAN BROWN - CELEBRATION

Since June '06, when BA took over locally, there have been perhaps 1 or 2 songs I've heard on BA that I've liked that I have
not heard on Jones.

Nightflight-Blue Knights - ?

So, when I say there are no "comparisons" between JSJ and BA, only stark "contrasts", the aforementioned partial list provides
compelling evidence of the contrasted superiority of JSJ's syndicated SJ product.

Well I know that Jones's classic rock format stinks. Satellite commercial classic rock sucks so much. I was listening to WTMB last night and had to turn it off. WHPT 102-5 The Bone in Tampa, FL is so much better sounding. I will have to take another listen to the Jones's smooth jazz format. In general, I think satellite (commercial) radio sucks. If I could I would just eliminate all those stations and make 'em live and local - better radio for everyone.

if you think 106.9 plays bad smooth jazz, a lot of the HD2 Clear Channel smooth jazz stations stink.

Just to clarify, I think that Kepler's BA Network is the culprit, not WJZX-FM per se'.

WJZX-FM doesn't use Kepler's BA Network all the time...they do depart from the network midday during the work-week, and weekend afternoons. They will actually play songs that you don't hear on BA. I think WJZX-FM sounds decent when they break free of the mundane, predictable, unimaginative, overly-researched playlist used by Kepler/BA.

Kepler's BA Network is acquiring Jones SJ effective 9/30/08..I think I want to vomit!! :'(

I would like to send my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Jones Radio Network's Smooth Jazz crew on this their final day of operation.

I have been saddened deeply by the announced end of JSJ. I have been one of their most outspoken supporters on this forum, and I too have very fond memories of JSJ having been first introduced to JSJ on WASJ 105.1 FM Panama City Beach FL back in '99.

I will forever remember enjoying myself immensely in the fall of '99, '00, and '03 while vacationing on The Emerald Coast @ PCB, and winters since '02 @ Destin, having JSJ - WASJ as my listening partner almost constantly as I rode my bike, jogged the beaches, or enjoyed a evening cocktail and cigar on the condo patio overlooking the white sand beaches of PCB/Destin, FL.

I still vividly remember listening to Steve Michaels on a Saturday evening in September '03, playing some incredibly beautiful SJ music which I had never heard before, much less played on my local SJ FM station here in Milwaukee. I asked myself why I had never heard these beautiful songs before, and why other commercial SJ programmers didn't have the creativity and imagination to sound more like JSJ?

This makes the departure of JSJ a very bitter pill to swallow, especially when they have been taken over by a cartel whose product is so vastly inferior that it makes listening virtually impossible. JSJ was and is the absolute best syndicated SJ product...they make Kepler's now SJ monopoly product sound like an amateurish joke.

My very best wishes go out to the JSJ crew....Steve Michaels, John Evans, Laurie Cobb, Keith Riker, Loni Taylor, David Washington, Kenny Cortes and support staff...you and your station will be deeply missed, but never forgotten!

Best Wishes,
DD

Just to clarify, I think that Kepler's BA Network is the culprit, not WJZX-FM per se'.

I returned to Green Bay last week to visit my folks; my Dad is a SJ fan and a regular listener to the Smooth Jazz format through Sirius and WAUN-FM, Green Bay, WI. I've informed him how lucky he was to have a Jones affiliate in town, highlighting the quality of their programming when the format first arrived.

So, when I returned to GB, I made no mention of the station takeover by BA following JSJ's 9/30/08 discontinuance.

One of the first things he says to me is "Our Smooth Jazz station has changed!!" :(

I asked him what he thought, and he says "They hardly play any smooth jazz songs anymore!!" :(

It was then I explained to him what had happened, and that JSJ was no longer.

He had a sad look on his face (he an I are a lot alike) and said "that's terrible news...well, at lest I still have Sirius!!" :(

So, another anecdotal account of a "Joe 6-Pack" SJ fan who is mourning the loss of JSJ, and has flatly rejected the BA cartel!
