Green Day on KLUC

Any thoughts on KLUC playing "Wake me up when September ends"? This one really surprises me, even more than Kelly Clarkson.

I love green day, I grew up in the bay area, near berkeley, ca. where they are founded. but, the sept. song seems really "slow" in terms of all the other "fast" green day songs that they are known for, so for a urban CHR like KLUC to play a slower paced green day song does surprise me.

I thought Kelly Clarkson was a stretch, but Green Day?? It sounds like KLUC is testing the waters with their audience and may be slowly returning to more of a pop/mainstream CHR. How is this going over down the hall at KMXB? KVEG must be smiling.

My thought is if they can get away with Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone," "September" is not that big of a stretch.

There were a few of you claiming Vegas needed a CHR/Pop CHR/Mainstream. Here you go. Earlier I pointed out the similarities between KLUC and KIIS' playlists. They're nearly identical.

Mix has got to be pissed though. I wonder if tempers have flared over on West Sahara over Clarkson and then Green Day...both core MIX artists.

I don't believe Hot will benefit, however. Any Hot listeners that left LUC because it was too pop left long before LUC played Green Day. On the flipside, LUC may pull some people back from Mix. Wait and see.

Appearantly Hot might be moving away from leaning exclusively on Hip Hop titles as well: it just added Madonna's "Hung Up" to its rotation. We'll have to wait and see if anything comes of it.

If KLUC and HOT both start adding a bunch of pop titles (and I doubt HOT will), it will create a hole for a real hip hop station like the old WILD 102. One of the reasons WILD had poor ratings was that when they were around the other two rhythmics were at their most urban sounding ever. It was way too oversaturated. But if KLUC and HOT are in a pop adding battle, one of the low rated stations in town could flip rhythmic and beat them both right out of the gate.

The truth is that if KLUC is already adding these records it'd actually be a bad move for Hot to do the same. People who want to hear that will have already followed the KLUC way, so Hot should just keep doing what they're doing, rather than alienate what is left by playing the stuff that they didn't follow at KLUC.

Over the last 2 years I've driven through, and spent time in, Vegas about half a dozen times. Hot is by far the better sounding station as far as the overall package is concerned.
