It's no better in Raleigh, with the possible exception of 96Rock; 100.7 The River is still a total mess...

Buzzard will start to pick up once notice is taken of the programming adjustments. I guarantee it...

While JB&B are a problem for VBZ...the music changes WILL make a difference. The station sounds fresher and the TSL will be goin up. They've always had the cume...now the TSL will spike and ratings will go up. The 2 rock stations are kinda funny. KRR has the good AM show...then declines all day. VBZ is the opposite. JB&B put them into a hole, then they dig out of it all day.

Notice how WKRR continues to tank. Once #2 on to WTQR but years ago. Perhaps time to change the same 175 worn out music cuts.

I am ROOTING for VBZ. I hope they kick R92's @$$ as they have been boring as $hi+ for TOO LONG! Imagine how well VBZ would be doing if they didn't have to dig out of the JB&B hole every day. Imagine starting out the day AHEAD of the game.

::) What happened to Oldies 94.1???? WTHZ..I thought they were up and coming last book??

Where do you get these? The site I go to won't publish until the final quarterly ratings are in. I've been told Entercom won't allow it where they own stations.

WTHZ (Magic 94.1) is over and done. Theyre not even a top ten player anymore. It's just like every other format they've tried in the past, except this one they self-destructed when it was actually getting some good numbers. The reason? It's a no-brainer; Gig Hilton, Tom Collins and Bob Campbell. Get these three out of there and things could change. Gig Hilton thinks he knows radio, and he doesn't. Tom Collins is like a shady used car salesman, only worse! (My apologies to all the used car salesmen). Bob Campbell doesn't understand his own job and is clueless about strategic programming.

There you have it. The management team that wrote the book on the formula for failure.

My humble opinion is that listeners were writing down "Magic" in their diaries when in fact they were listening to WMAG (which many moons ago used to go by that identifier). Majic 94.1 got the credit for it. That's why 94.1 popped the first couple of books after going to Oldies.

So what made those who wrote Magic suddenly change their name for their favorite station? Most who are accustomed to calling 99.5 "Magic" still do so. I suspect the decline is more due to samplers who have decided they don't like the station. It ain't the same as Oldies 93.

It's a fact that most people don't write down the call letters or the station slogan. They write down the frequency. Give credit where credit is due. Oldies 93 was a very good radio station and it had a lot of listener loyalty. Magic 94.1 came along and filled to void for many of them but they opted not to play the older songs that were hits prior to the mid-sixties. They also played a lot of songs from the later part of the seventies and even into the eighties. That being said, the result was that they duplicated a lot of songs that were being played by WMAG just to add to the confusion. Calling WTHZ "Magic" was either very smart or very stupid. I vote for stupid but the jury is still out.

Any thoughts?

Majic is about all it's gonna be. All they're trying to do is pay the bills until the big move to Charlotte comes about- Gig's still convinced he's gonna win the tower move deal.... sooo, not much point in digging in deep in a market you don't intend to serve long term, is there?

A couple of points:

1- I suspect 94.1 is PROFITABLE! Remember, it has been in the hands of the Hilton family for a long time which means they didn't pay some overinflated price for the station. Debt service is the number one expense that prevents many stations from being profitable!

2- mediawatch22 is right about the music mix. It is very hard to mix songs from the early 60s with those of the 80s and get away with it. A more narrow playlist will have a broader appeal because of the fringes of the listener base. The older songs upset the younger fringe and the newer songs upset the older fringe. You can not live on the core alone!

Is 94.1 done? No. The suspected lower cost of doing business can result in higher profits at a lower spot rate. Big question is are they selling it? And to whom?

XTalker- Majic is making a little money at present. As I posted earlier, Gig is determined to move the signal to Charlotte. He's paying astronomical attorney fees and consultants for expert testimony in round after round of court battles. And the corporation is not debt free....

You're right about the music. I'd attribute the influx of 80's product to the GM, who involves himself heavily in playlist and programming.

Is it for sale? Absolutely- has been for years, if someone steps up with Charlotte market $$$...the plan has always been to move, and sell. Is anyone buying it at present? Not likely, as it's priced as a Charlotte signal, pending a couple more court losses.
