Greenstone female talk network to cease Aug 17

"Women don't listen to AM."

That's why this network went down plain and simple. Women have better high frequency hearing than men on average. AM radio sounds worse as a result.

I know this is anecdotal, but I am a HUGE talk radio fan. I listen to everything from politics, health, gardening, financial ect. I was not looking forward to "women's talk radio" because it brought to my mind "women's television". To me, women's tv has been about women being victims of evil men, governments ect. I think the women who watch that kind of tv are not the type who would listen to talk radio at all. To me, talk radio may appeal more to men than women, but I don't think it should only go after one sex. In fact, our local clear channel station just went to "talk radio for men". How stupid is that? Why ostracize even part of your audience? They changed it to MOJO. They even put girlie pictures on their website. In a "huge"way, pun intended. Who thinks talk radio and girlie pictures go together. I think of information, news, and the such. Well, anyway, that's my take on women's talk radio. No audience for it.

Female Talk is a hard sell- we ran the Sat Sisters daily from 9 to noon followed by Dr. Laura. Though DL had a following the Sisters never really picked up speed.

Greenstone is being aired on a 25,000 watt FM Entercom station here in the Greenville/Spartanburg, SC market.
This station was quite popular just a few years ago with an oldies format.

In the last book, the station had a 0.0 rating. Ouch!

I am not surprised. I mentioned in another post that the demo they had on their website was pretty booring. In fact, I think it was supposed to be their morning show. There is an old saying....so goes the morning show...so goes the radio station. I just didn't hear a compelling reason to listen. Also, you need to put your very best shows or product on your internet demo. All I kept thinking to myself was....if this is the BEST they can come up with.....they are in real trouble. The concept of a female radio station may still be valid but not the format they were selling.
