Greenstone Media (heard on WNSH) to close?

radio and records reports that the all-female talk network Greenstone Media may be shutting down soon,
perhaps as early as Aug 17. The network was backed by a group that featured Gloria Steinem and
Jane Fonda and features hosts like The Radio Ritas, Lisa Birnbach, and Rolanda Watts. Here it's on
WNSH 1570 in Beverly; up in Burlington VT, it's on "Eve 1070" where it displaced Air America.

wonder what Keating will put on 'NSH in the time slots that are affected? 'NSH also runs Laura Ingraham
(who is from Talk Radio Network), and then "radio for women" changes to an all male lineup at 6 pm
(Michael Reagan, Jerry Doyle)

R&R reports that Greenstone has had trouble getting affiliates. I don't know of any other than WNSH
and WTWK (Plattsburgh's 1070)

Another example of why 'branding' yourself into a corner for ideological reasons is a bad idea. Another cure for which there was no known disease. Blew through 5 mil and came up with nothing, leaving itself with not enough cash to carry out its strategic business plan.

I believe they plateaued at a dozen stations and couldn't move up from there. Supposedly, they tried the same gambit as AAR and listed stations carrying any programming they originated as 'affiliates.' Not necessarily dishonest, but not exactly giving a true picture of what was happening.

TSB

yeah these guys would make AAR seem like a raging success! Who knows, the Champlain Valley station could
always go back to progressive talk and instantly double their listenership.

From 50 to 100 :)
I didn't know about the 5 mil figure. I know AAR's debt, absorbed by the new owners, was at least $20 mil
(half of that coming from a "loan" from Rob Glaser of Real Networks). Only a dozen stations, eh...and
WNSH and WTWK are not exactly 50kW powerhouses. (And you're right, the stations could carry as little
as one show and be considered an "affiliate"...)

Their other 'cure' is to saddle all liberal radio with angry, seething, rage-filled hosts. Libs are running congress (badly, but that's another story). Why not talk about hopeful, positive things instead? Like raising taxes to pay for things that--surprise!--never seem to get better when more money is thrown at them! Tell everyone how much BETTER schools will be if only billions more were spent on teachers (read: administrators) and schools (read: union activism). Yes, tell us. The old 'pay-no-attention-to-the-man-behind-the-curtain' philosophy of liberal talk radio.

Yeah, let's pay $6 a gallon for gas and the bridges won't fall down any more...if it isn't rage filled hosts,
it's unfunny comedians or NPR types that lull you to sleep. (Or Bobby Kennedy Jr. and his Kate
Hepburn-sounding voice...) Their solution to make talk radio "fair" is to bring back the Fairness
Doctrine and kill off issues-oriented talk radio entirely (just because people didn't want to hear
the molasses-dripped voice of Al Franken)

The rumor is true. Radio and Records confirms Greenstone will discontinue operations on Oct 17.
We'll see what WNSH will run

"Only about eight affiliates cleared the programming in mostly mid-size and smaller markets, hardly enough to sustain the network."

I'd assume this means UNLESS a deep pocketed sugar daddy appears and starts writing checks ( why keep this loser running for another two months unless they're fishing for a savior.)

If I was WNSH, I think I'd keep looking for replacement programming.

Ain't happenin'. That horse has long ago left the barn. The FD revival talk survives only as a red meat offering to talk show hosts who need something to rail about and as the liberal version of boob bait. It will come back around the time the US switches back to the Gold Standard.

What we have now is an economy that outsources so much of its business that the U.S. currency has to be devalued to TRY to make itself "competitive"; so we're less on a "gold-standard" as a "fool's gold-standard". (How do I keep coming up with this stuff? I know, it's a gift.)

btw I may have typed Oct 17 above but I meant Aug 17--so it's more like (less than) two WEEKS to go.
Apologies (I did write Aug in first post of this thread)

WNSH has done birdfed stuff like oldies or talk; mostly stuff from Talk Radio Network or
Radio America that should be free or cheap to run. They do carry Doyle (also heard
on WRKO & WCRN) and Ingraham (also on WTKK and WCRN)
TRN also has the likes of Savage, Mancow, Rusty Humphries, Tammy Bruce, and
now Phil Hendrie.

Radio America has Doug Stephan (WRKO runs), G. Gordon Liddy, Michael Reagan (WNSH runs already).
For a time WNSH ran Alan Nathan who calls himself a "militant moderate who wants the Democrats
out of our wallets, the Republicans out of our bedrooms, and both of them away from our First
and Second Amendment rights".

so that unmodulated carrier they were throwing last week was just a preview of things to come.
