Greenville 1330

I noticed it around noon yesterday, and it's happened before. They don't sound as good (to me) as 950 when they're on. I doubt they would do any kind of change without also involving 950 who is business as usual.

I wonder how many people even listen to 1330 anymore.

I wonder what is causing it to keep going off the air. More than likely some kind of equipment issue (I don't think you're supposed to be silent more than a certain amount of time without notifying the FCC). It has done it before but usually has come back on promptly. So much history with signals like 1330 and 1070 to see the sad state they are in these days.

Guess it just goes to show that Entercom doesn't care much about 1330/950, and that they're pretty much forgotten by most outside of radio geeks. I wish they'd put the new CBS Sports Radio on them or something.

i hear entercoms am stations are going all sports in the new years and letting 106.3 stand on its own. hard to make an impact when you are silent.

That would make sense with CBS Sports Radio launching after New Years. Entercom is doing the same with a talk station on AM in Indianapolis.

And the funny thing is, there are places the 2 AMs come in well and the FM does NOT.......
That's why they shouldn't change to sports now. The time to do that was 5 years ago before ESPN came on 1440 and 1400. They just got a new competitor at 94.5FM that covers more area than 106.3. If they switch the AM's now, they aren't as smart as I thought.

If anybody's listening to 1330, they sure aren't mentioning it - there isn't a single post on their Facebook page about it, and they haven't rushed to get it back on the air (seems like if there were many people listening, they would be complaining, and they'd be rushing to get it back on). They haven't even included them in the branding in ages. A lot of stations with VERY inferior FM signals to their AM signals are breaking off and focusing on the FM (the highly successful WFAN in NYC is an example).

There's nothing smart about them IMO. Anybody that gives Russ Cassell and Bob McLain the exposure they do is not smart.

I can't really think of any place significant that these stations would come in well that 106.3 wouldn't (especially since 106.3 is in mono now) - in Greenville/Simpsonville/Spartanburg/Greer, at least, 106.3 comes in fine, as well or in many cases better than those AM's. I just find it hard to believe there's any place those AM's would come in better than the C3 FM, except for maybe 1330 in Pickens County

1330 has been trimulcast with 950 and 106.3 for so long that i am sure most of 1330s listeners found the fm signal since the signals overlaped for the most part. i thought it was odd that 106.3 aired a music oriented program on christmas day on their mono signal. turning 1330 off for a week will rid them of any listeners so they can come back with something else in the new year. 1440 and 1400 do well in the areas they cover. 1330 would be late to the party if they are going sports

Wouldn't both 1330 and 950 go sports?
I don't see any reason to keep 950 simulcast with 106.3. 106.3's signal is better on the Spartanburg side (950 area) than the Greenville side (1330 area).

Since 1330 has gone off several times before, I assumed it was a technical issue and nobody was rushing to fix it.

I wonder if 1440 is going to change to Fox Sports Radio. If you go to their Facebook page, the website redirects to http://www.foxsports1440.com but still says ESPN 1440.

that is possible. fox sports is barter and espn has rights fees and i doubt cc is selling it.

i think entercom doesnt have enough people to do a format flip on 1330 so they just turned it off sad

Not to mention that Premiere (owned by CC) distributes it.

Whatever happens with 1330, I can't help but think 950 will do the same. I don't see a reason for a 106.3/950 simulcast.

I noticed 1330 was back on this past weekend. I'm not sure when it came back on, didn't check for a while last week. If 1330 and 950 go sports, they'd provide pretty decent market wide coverage, something 1400 or 1440 can't claim. Plus it would be a nice sell with 93.3 and/or 101.1.

Their signal isn't very good, but 1400/97.1 in Spartanburg carries ESPN.
