Greenville and Indianola stations sold

Don't even get me started on Eddie Bond. His picture should accompany thie listing for "buffoon" in any dictionary.

BTW, Laidback Larry is now a highly-paid sales dude at the Clear Channel cluster in Bakersfield, CA.

I came across Eddie Bond at WVIM Hot Country V95.3 in Hernando, MS. I was working at WAVN in Southaven at the time. Guess he had just purchased WKZB and he offered me a job to help get Z95.3 on the air. When we went on we were 24hrs and Live the whole time. I did mornings and Afternoons on WKZB. He wanted it to go off the air at Midnight but we got a bar in Cleveland to sponsor the overnights to save being on 24/7. After about 5 months I learned Eddie Bond was less than honest to advertisers and pretty much everyone else and decided to bolt from WKZB and went to WIQQ. Remember having a few Football game gatherings at Larrys Apartment back in the day. Also remember using that Q102 trailer for remotes that seemed to last forever. Some remotes were actually fun, but most did not seem to fit the Q102 Demo....

I was in the Delta this past weekend and took the oppurtunity to listen to a few of the stations. The new Q102 was jockless (sans a woman's voice with a pre-recorded weather forecast) Totally new imaging and jingles. Still Hot AC but with some stuff making it borderline rythmic AC.

BOB-FM (formerly 99.1 the MAX) Very diverse in the music selection while staying within a Hot AC/Adult Alternative arena. Apprciated they had jocks mixed in with the JACK like personality liners. Does anyone know if this is the BOB format from the Waitt Network? I read the jocks VT about 20 minutes before the scheduled break, if this is the case, their VT sounded really good. Better than Jack...

WKDJ 96.7- First time I got to listen to the Hot AC varient, but it was good. Did not sound like it was off satillite, can anyone confirm?

An intresting note is that all three of these stations air Ole Miss football. While I can understand KDJ broadcasting it as Clarksdale is it's primary market, I can not understand why both BOB and WIQQ both air the same game with a large overlap in broadcast area. I have always been under the impression that these sportscast rights are bid out to one station based on the coverage area, so why do these two seem to broadcast the same game in the same area?

Other tidbits: Majic Country 107.5 now broadcast the Delta State football games, of which I'm sure was one of the jewels picked from the failed Rusell empire.
Do they still air Cleveland High football? I worked for this station while in college, but this past weekend was my first time back to the area in just over 2 years, so I'm a little rusty on what changes may have occured, if any.

WCLD-AM, sister station of Majic, still Gospel with dollar for a holler on Sunday mornings. I ran the boards for the various preaching groups and as I was passing out of town Sunday morning some of those cars in the station parking lot looked very familar, so I assume some of the same groups I put on the air are still at it.

This is not meant as any offense towards BOB but I have gotten the impression that they had college students in training or something doing VT - it sounded very amateurish. Maybe I should go ask for a job, I can be amateurish, too. :p

...and I can't see Cleveland HS football not being on a station. I was absolutely astounded to find no less than 14 HS football games on FM receivable in Grenada. Including one on our new translator!

I was in the Delta and had a chance to listen to (the new) Q102.3. Still hot AC, but sounds as if they've been taken off satellite. Even heard fresh new jingles for the first time in ages. Seems like Debut actually gives a damn about how to run a station. Granted, I didn't listen much, but I was encouraged by what I heard.

When I listened, all I heard were liners and songs, no jocks. Is that really better than satellite?

But at least I didn't hear Margaret doing any 20-minute remote breaks!

No kidding. I timed her at 17 minutes during a bridal fair remote.
