Greenville FA09

I can just see the 12+, but the Fall '09 book is out for GSP. Always interesting to see what the Christmas stations do.

Any thoughts? WMYI obviously did well with the Christmas music. They are sounding good lately but need to mix in a little more current material along with the recurrents they play.
WSPA's numbers, especially for Christmas, were bad. Perhaps they dug too deep in to the archives at Christmas. ;) However, their normal format has been sounding bad; killing the 70s and not making up for it with edgier/newer stuff its place (which would overlap with WFBC) is a killer. Their lowest book in a long time. WFBC still stuck in the 4's but nice leaps for HZT and SSL.

many posters loved the deep christmas cuts under "is it time yet" on nov 15 i posted "interesting. do people like christmas songs they have never heard before or do they like the ones they know. considering passive at work listening in the ac format i would stick with the standards" look like it did not work well for spa

Deep cuts never works, anywhere, anytime. But, 98.9 does not have an AC programmer in charge, so what would you expect?

I guess I have to agree...while I loved some of the deeper cuts, it just doesn't work.

98.9 sounds like a train wreck to me lately just in the regular format. automation problems, lack of playlist depth, too many slow 90s songs, same currents/recurrents over and over...WMYI will win this easily if things don't change. Shame because they were really getting on the right track with the last PD.

Is it just me or does Magic 98.9's processing sound horrible lately? They have certainly cranked up the lows to a new state of loudness that is so overwhelming that on some songs the vocals are low volume and sound washed-out.

I'm no audiophile, but they have a hard, loud, and edgy sound lately that makes them frequently sound over-modulated, especially in the more aggressive songs. They are louder than their sister stations almost. This processing method may work on 93.3 but not Magic. Then again, Entercom's never been brilliant in that department.

To me, 93.3 has always sounded horrible and still does.

I can't quite explain it, but even when the signal is perfectly clear (I'm in Brevard, NC) it stil sounds messy and hard to listen to.

Agreed. I heard awhile back that 93.3 was switching from T-1 delivery to STL, presumable once the new transmitter on Hogback was up & running. I have no clue if that has happened yet, but it still sounds like crap!

I was checking around today and 98.9 is so loud now it blows away all of the other stations. Way louder than 93.7 and is almost on par with 93.3. I don't know what they're thinking but they've killed the sound quality for volume.

I'm no 'phile either, but Entercom has had processing problems for ages! And it's not like they don't have the toys - beautiful facility (one of the few Durney legacies that worked). Would it kill them to bring someone from outside (maybe from around the triad) with a fresh ear to tweak all of their stations?

Programming on 98.9 is whole 'nuther mess...

Agreed.

IMO, WFBC isn't a great CHR station. I like 95.1 from Charlotte more in that area. They need a PD that can handle both 93 and 98 if they're going to be so cheap. I bet those stations will always have the same PD now, as long as I can remember the rock stations have.

Agreed on WSPA's processing. That loud, clipped sound might make more sense if they were a low powered rim shot signa, where most of the market had a marginal signall. But, they have great coverage with a full class C signal from Hogback. Clean up the sound some and TSL would probably improve.
