Greenville Radio-The "Big Joke"

I agree with the fact that Stanley and Bill are just letting the station go with little or no programming thought. This is not their fault for neither of them are programmers or have ever had any programming training. As a matter of fact whatever training they have had it basically "on the job". If their is fault or blame to be laid here it needs to be on them and not necessarily the talent. I agree that you get what you pay for but also feel a few dollars in a consultant coulld and would clear this mess up.

Do you really think that the "man who delivers the jockey sauce" (whatever the hell that is) would actually listen to a consultant? It's obvious to me that he believes he's doing a great job!

Oh I agree 100%. No I don't think the "jockey sauce king" will listen to anybody for he is a "star" and actually a throw back to chittlin radio but management could use a does of reality!

The move that makes the most sense, but will not happen, is to have a big retirement party for the man. I give him his propers for 40 years on the air and he deserves that much. Let Bill and Stanley make a big splash and send him off the right way. Then...bring in some new blood and re-tool the station.

A favorite verbal annoyance during my years living in the South has to be "waitin on you" rather than "waiting for you". There is a commercial currently running
nationwide for pizza where the owner of the house having a party says to the kid making the delivery whatchu "waitin on" boy git in here. Its spreading like the plague.

The best part of the morning show on WBAD is between 7 and 7:45a when Big Joke does not say a word. If you are in the area and can hear him (94.3) listen to him when he speaks and see if anything he says makes any sense. He rambles on and on and on without any hint of making sense.

By the way....Joke....when you're doing a commercial for an advertiser, never tell your listeners to "axe" for someone at the name of the business. The correct pronounciation is "ask"!! You're supposed to be the professional and setting the example for your listeners.

I see it's not just Steve Shelton and his "geniuses" at WDMS/WGVM that can't figure out a way to get the right commercials to play. This past Friday WBAD ran an ad for a nightclub for an event that was scheduled for February 17th. Errrr....wasn't Friday March the 2nd?????

Gives new meaning to the slogan "BAD" FM.

I am told this is not unusual for WBAD. Garbage in is garbage out. Am sure their computer program has an end date on the order input. This appears to just be another example of lack of leadership and supervision .. Just sayin!

That sort of thing isn't limited to WBAD or the Delta. I was listening to a major market station a number of times in the car yesterday (Monday) and they were running weekend liners between songs all day when they had live operators. In a way, that is even worse! Quality control and common sense in radio seem to be a thing of the past.

How big of a market? Anything out of the Top 20....even stretching to top 50 is not really major market.

#20. The market used to sound a lot more like a major, but not so much now.

#20 is Denver...Interesting!!

As far as Greenville, Greenville/Greenwood hasn't been a rated market for a number of years. Arbitron only rates a market when some sucker is willing to pay their outrageous fees.

Hey "Joke". I guess you're too busy delivering the "jockey sauce" (WTF is that) to remember that the "TH" in the word birthday is pronounced just at the "TH" in all words that have TH in them. You do not say "Birfday" because their is no letter "F" in the word. Shame on you for perpetuating the stereotype....you're supposed to set the example!!!

Appears that management (that may be a joke) at WBAD must not be reading the boards or just don't care since the jerk is still doing his thing. One must remember that a star always shines brightest before it goes dark. At some point in time this station has to move into the 21st century and get on board with a professional sound. I honestly feel they will feel the heat when Larry Fuss ups the power on his Indianola FM. What's the old saying, Money talks!
