Greenville, SC loses one AC - MY 102.5

My 102.5, WMYI in Greenville/Spartanburg SC, has dumped its near 25-year long AC format for Hot AC, retaining the "My 102.5" brand but updating the music mix, imaging, and jingles. Mostly 80s-now Hot AC like what WNIC flipped to. Cee Lo Green, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga, Hootie & The Blowfish, Don Henley, P!nk, and Katy Perry were all part of the first hour.

The station always had a very older leaning music mix, and played a lot of 70s and 80s. This leaves Magic 98.9 as the market's only AC station. This is a very surprising and baffling move, since they were #3 12+ in the last book.

So far, this is very similar to what CC did with WNIC; however, while the station screams Hot AC, they're playing one 70s song every other hour. That's strange....sticks out like a sore thumb.

I wonder if any other heritage Clear Channel AC stations will do this?

Wonder if Clear Channel would make the same change on Lite 102.9 in Charlotte? As Lite and K pretty much stay the same with K 104.7 scoring higher in the last two books also cume for K has been higher even when Lite scored higher in April.

You know, I was wondering the same thing. To me, the only thing that could stop something like that is having Channel 96.1 in the building.

Your right, forgot about 96.1

Something else came to mind. Could Y 102.5 Charleston be in for a change? I say no because of the new AC, 95.9 Lite FM trying to compete with Y now. But Lite is much a lot softer and sleepy then Y.

I think this move just goes to show you don't really know how a station is doing based on 12+ numbers. It was obviously underperforming and had been losing to WSPA, and a good book in the winter wasn't good enough to save it.

I don't think Y 102.5 is going to change anything - they always seem to fall back on playing more older music if needed.

This is still AC, man, just a little more current-based I think - with power rotation set at 19x a week, there's no way they'd classify My 102.5 as "Hot AC"

Yes, like I just posted on the Charlotte board, maybe it's more like Bright AC or whatever it's called.
