Greenville/Spartanburg fall ratings

The ratings are out....wow at WORD. Have they ever made #2 12+ before? Any thoughts? Not really surprised at WORD with the election and all.

WMYI gained a lead over WSPA again but both are really down...WSSL has started to fall lately, they used to be in the top 3 usually. Down from a 10 share!! 'TPT took a hit. Nice for WFBC.
Oh, Clear Channel...good job getting WBZT to a 1 share..

WSSL's lowest share since 1982! Sheez!

And, WMYI managed to mess up Christmas. They had been at or near the top in Fall books since 2001, until now. Too bad WSPA wasn't good enough to take advantange of it.

I know...WSSL is really a shock! They have lost almost half of their share over the past year. And WESC took a big beating as well, so they apparently aren't going over there. Just a couple of years ago WSSL was pretty much always 1 or 2 in the market.

Entercom messed up WSPA, I think because they played quite a lot of obscure stuff. Some listeners may not have taken well to that compared with WMYI's "safe" playlist. WMYI did do badly...but leave it to CC. They aren't even giving the temperature over the air after the weather forecast anymore!

That's just one of the ways WMYI has slipped. They used to have Weather Channel forecasts, with updates on thunderstorm and flood warnings very quickly. Now, the weather you hear on Sunday was recorded by the jock on Friday. They don't think people notice or care, but cut corners on enough little things, and over time you get unimpressive ratings like they have now. But, hey, they're saving money!

CC has slowly killed WMYI and made it lifeless over the past few years. They barely image it. The voice talent usually just says "102.5" or something over a song, or maybe they run a short liner or jingle but many times there is nothing between the songs. A little imaging would help them out a lot. They used to do a nice top-hour ID but that has been long gone. Sad.

So does anyone know what has caused WSSL to take such nose-dives? Having your share cut in half almost in a year isn't a good thing. 'ESC seems to be holding up but it doesn't appear they are getting any new listeners either.

jmo but word had an impact on both country stations. it is the south and conservative talk trying to get mccain elected was important to listeners in the fall. rush laimbaugh was their spokesperson and listeners join him to get fired up. these are red blooded americans that might typically listen to country music but felt that the election was important. country was down in many southern markets including columbia and charleston.

i consider myself objective regarding ratings and not trying to bash one particular company. the facts are that wjmz wins everything in gsp. does anyone know if wjmz gives the local temperature? is that what puts them on top? stations will find their highlights in the book but selling advertising will be job number one.

we can blame cc for radio's problems but thousands of people are losing their jobs this week. the current temperature on an ac station is the least of our worries.

WJMZ has no competition. They could be #1 and do nothing. That's probably where the majority of the African-American radio listeners are going.
They are the only station targeting that audience.

As a side note....who is even programming WMYI these days? I don't remember ever reading about them or where they came from. The last PD really had things together.
