Greenville, Vicksburg stations using same playlist!

When I was in Pensacola working for CC at an Oldies station about 10 years ago, we generated our log locally and sent the same Selector log to the Panama City oldies station. It amounts to one or more salaries they don't have to pay, one of the reasons there are so few radio jobs now. I worked mornings in Pensacola and voice tracked afternoons in Panama City, oops...there goes another salary. From an economic standpoint it does make sense, but in my opinion has nothing to do with these uncertain financial times (it's been going on for years).

Sometimes, IMO,the disparity of a certain level of talent comes into play. As far as voicetracking goes,as far back as your days in Pensacola,John,if you weren't good enough on air, your voice wouldn't be used in another market, obviously. Some stations sound better using out of market(or larger market) talent than having some little high school kid reading liners, which may be the other option based on economics of the station's ownership.(Nothing against any high school dj's,now, I used to be one.) It's not that the owners are "cheap",as some might infer, it's just that there ain't enuff dollars in the delta or other small markets to pay for enough higher quality local talent. As for programming, unless you can afford to invest the money in doing a unique, high maintenance format,if the listeners and revenue are still there, who cares if you're using the same rotation as a station in another market? If it works it works. Ever notice any local newpapers using the same stories as USA Today? Or WLBT running a canned report from NBC? Sheesh. Here's a question. These people that have time to monitor stations all day long and listen for 500 watt AM format changes. What do they do for a living???

True, but how does that explain a Prophet installer friend of mine talking about the ONE employee in a cluster of 5 or 6 stations in Chicago (hardly a small market) over a weekend? The owners may not be cheap, just GREEDY! (Only an opinion and it really doesn't affect me being that I got out about a year and a half ago)
As far as the music goes, no one ever called and complained. As a matter of fact, if someone was traveling through Mobile, Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, Panama City and wanted to hear oldies then it worked out well in that they wouldn't hear the same songs again.

Oh, there's some greedy folks out there, too. Don't want to give all of 'em a pass! But think of all the free coffee that one employee got to keep for himself!

True, not all are greedy. "Hey now...who are you talking about getting free coffee? I can't be bothered with this air shift, my headphones are broken...where's Tommy? I can't do THIS!!"
Have a good weekend.
