Greenville

Any thoughts on radio in Greenville right now....to be the largest market in the state, seems like we're the most boring.

Was listening around to the morning shows and the 93s' morning shows continue to be a joke, 98.9's was of course over with just music, and I notice 102.5 had already ended theirs by 8am and Liz Ryals was on. Even with CHR on an upswing nationwide, has anyone else noticed that B93.7 doesn't seem to get the ratings they used to?

Entercom, please fix The Planet or just put it out of its misery.

talk to 93.3 and oldies back to 106.3 is what i hear

That doesn't make sense. 93.3 carrying talk would infringe on talkers in other markets, especially Asheville.

Active Rock can work on 93.3, if they'd try a little harder.

And besides....Entercom will never do oldies again in this market. They've killed it twice. They'll never try harder with 93.3, they've had almost 6 years to and haven't.

I hope somebody flips this year...we need something new.

Why would Entercom care about infringing on talkers in other markets? Entercom doesn't own any talkers nearby.

Premiere would care. WWNC has exclusive right to air Rush in Asheville. WBT has those same rights in Charlotte.

Now think about what would happen if WORD moves to 93.3. Get back to me once you've thought it over.

I'm not thinking about the rights as much as the sense that would even make - they can get a 7+ share now with talk on 106.3, a C3, why change anything? 106.3 is perfect for news/talk. They would just flip 93.3 to something else. I don't buy that blurb.

I can see 102.5 flipping maybe. A change there would kill 96.7 also as they use the same resources. I compared both AC's Friday and 98.9 is killing them....so much more life, listener/community involvement, and they at least give the weather. Purely from a listener's standpoint.

7+ share is only if a ditto head gets a diary and listens all day every day. talk is one of their better products why not put it on a better signal and get a 9 share?

While I too doubt that WORD will move to 93.3, it's certainly not because of Premiere. They'd welcome the stronger stick.

I'm surprised Entercom has kept 93.3 as it is. I thought it was in danger of a flip back when they bought it.

B93.7 is almost equally as bad. They clearly aren't riding the current CHR wave of success.

Thoughts on Greenville:

I'm starting to wonder if it would make more sense at some point to move Hawk and Tom to Magic. Seems like a lot of their audience has grown older and might be out of B937's demo.

WORD: It's weird that the same guy that buys time on Saturday to promote his financial firm is allowed to do afternoon drive when Bobby is off. As far as I'm concerned, Tony Dale is unlistenable. I can no longer stand "Can't Stop Believin'" by Journey because Dale uses it in his commercials and promos for his show. I thought you weren't allowed to rip off music that way. Surely he's not paying royalty fees for that song.

ESPN: I wish the signal were better but I love having ESPN on 1440 AM and in Spartanburg on 1400 AM. Mike and Mike are awesome. I miss Packman in the afternoon since he split with CBS Radio Charlotte. Anybody know if he will resurface in Greenville?

I think 98.9 and 93.7 need to swap morning shows. Heidi's daughter is on the morning show at Magic. 93.7's morning show is too old and 98.9's is too young. Another complaint about B93.7 I have is that they are OK with breaking new music, but take forever to update the power rotation with new hits.

I wonder if 1440 could get an FM translator? That would greatly help them, I would listen. 660's translator on 92.9 carries well in mono.

Speaking of translators....has anyone noticed how far the 94.1 translator (it's licensed for WJMZ but relays WHZT) carries? I think it's on the 103.3 tower but it hits Greenville pretty well, noticed south of Mauldin that it was scanning in well. Is in stereo also. They promote it on-air....I wonder if this has helped their recent rise in the #s? 6 and a half is pretty good for a signal that only reaches half of the market well.

98.1 is in a pretty sweet spot. They get the hip-hop listeners that have nowhere to go other than 107.3 and some CHR listeners from 93.7 also. Today is 98's 10th birthday as Hot.

10 years and still the "New" Hot 98-1...
Typical Cox. I have yet to hear one of their stations that stands out. I guess you can't argue with success, they do well given that they only cover around half of the market very well.

When is bidding for USC? CC's deal is up this year. Would be nice to hear the Gamecocks on WORD again where they fit and have a slightly better signal.

Guru:

Look up the signal contours for:
WRDU
WGBR
WTKF
WTIB

They all carry Rush in eastern and central NC and at least 2, sometimes 3 overlap at any given time. Premiere doesn't care.

entercom doesn't want basketball so it stays on cc
