Greenville's 1260 back on air

It's 1260 the Ticket, running ESPN Radio. I didn't catch the legal ID, but I'm assuming it's WGVM. So, who's minding the store there? Please tell me some competent individuals who actually give a damn about running a radio station.

To everything a season...This station was a big dawg in the 50's for the whole Delta, and had some pretty amazing jocks. JBI

The Greenville paper, the Delta Democrat Times, ran a story on the revived 1260 in the sports section yesterday. Evidently the new calls are WGBN, according to the article, but I wonder if the reporter just "misheard". A quick check to fccinfo.com shows WGBN licensed to New Kensington, PA, and WGVM still alive and well in Greenville. Two more notes of interest on fccinfo about 1260... they are 2.4 kW now (I remember them as being a 5kW daytimer "in the day"), and their tower is shown as a 5/8 wave, at least in electrical degrees. Is there really that much steel standing? I don't remember such a structure, but I have been a long time gone. They may have had a tall tower, since I assume WDMS-FM's antenna would have be co-located there.

Along with ESPN, they are running local shows on hunting, racing, and are broadcasting high school baseball. Riverside, Greenville Christian School, St. Joe, and Deer Creek Academy are the teams being covered at this time, with possible expansion in the future. Football coverage is planned, and other sports are under consideration. Bob Serio is doing the baseball broadcasts.

5/8 wave @ 1260 kHz would be 488 feet. Give or take.

I realize this is WAY much ado about nothing, but some sites say this antenna is 151 feet tall, and some say it is 151 meters.

Rob: I do not have the latest up dates, but considering the stated power, I think
the 151 METERS would apply...BUT, I am violating my own rule about speculating....Sorry I will try not to do it again....JBI

The 151 meter figure would go along with the 228 degrees in the fccinfo info, and would fly with a 5/8 wavelength tower. I just don't remember it being that tall. Of course, I don't remember what I had for breakfast, either.

ROTFLMAO... Far from it. It's Bob Ghetti.

I grew up listening to WGVM .. really a "hot" station in the 50's .. old memories and lots of good times .. hope the new management does something with that facility .. later WDDT and WJPR were local competitors. Some fairly good jocks passed through those stations over the years.
