Greg Alan gone from WMT

Seems like Greg Alan was unceremoniously dumped from wmt today. His web site states "Today was in all likelihood my last broadcast on-air. Thanks for lending me your ears, Eastern Iowa. Anyone have a job opening?" Anybody know what happened?

Sacked. Fired. Dismissed. Used up. Given pink slip. Shown the door. Dumped. Beyond that, legal departments encourage management not to give reasons anymore for fear of litigation. Not that I would do that, but it's just the way it is these days.

I'm saying this because I want to prevent rumors and un-informed opinions about why things like this happen. Life goes on...and radio is a silly business. Only my love for it prevents me from going crazy.

Updates, if any, will appear on the blog and website. Nothing will be printed that jeopardizes my future. Especially since I have a really hot iron in the fire as I write this. I hope people understand that and respect my privacy and will be civil about the matter.

I hope.

Prediction: Bob Bruce will be back in that airseat soon. After three months, Bob walked away from his KTRS (St. Louis) gig last week.

It figures WMT would do something stupid. They had a really good line up with Greg in the morning and Bob in the afternoon. Then Bob leaves and WMT trashes their morning by moving Greg to drive. Now they've brought in this really "white bread" guy for the mornings who isn't about to create any controversy or stir anything up and dumped Greg- guess they will bring in somebody for afternoons who won't do anything too controversial (like make the audience think).

Depends if you think Bob Bruce makes you think. I'm telling you Bob Bruce will in all liklihood be the WMT afternoon guy again.
Edited by mdog on 04/01/06 03:47 PM.

Bob is great, but it's a shame to lose Greg. WMT had a really good line up with Greg in the morning and Bob in the drive. I just don't trust WMT to bring him back . They replaced Greg with Tom Collins. I'm sure Tom is a nice guy but he's too middle of the road to give the station "personality". My biggest beef against him is the over abundance of those annoying filler spots. If I honestly gave a damn about what happened on Larry King I would watch Larry King. The same thing goes for Kim Komando's moment, Your Family Matters and Consumer Reports. That filler stuff just covers for a lack of anything to put on the air. Right now that show is a clone of Randy Lee's version of radio (non offensive, but rather aimless wandering).

My favorit 'MT moment was a recent remote featuring poor Greg Alan at a North Liberty business. Mr. Alan was sitting alone at a card table outside the business. His beautiful brown puppy eyes would light up in anticipation with every car entering the parking lot, only to be downcast when the drivers walked in to the store without the slightest hint of recognition of the pseudo-star. Insult to injury, the store's cashiers had a radio blasting out KHAK while the store's business office was tuned to KCJJ..... Apparently paid money for a 'live remote' but wouldn't even tune in to its own promotion....

Is WMT the radio station that was touting this morning that one gets "not 30, not 40, but 50 bucks" to win the current contest? Seriously, how boring does your life have to be to get all worked up over winning $50? Let's be reasonable people, it costs more than that to have you main line cleaned out on Sunday, even by a place that doesn't charge extra for evenings and weekends. When are Iowa radio stations going to get REAL promotions going like giving away cars or trips to popular vacationing locations and such?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but KRNA is giving away a trip - to Mexico I believe, and KHAK is giving away a trip AND a car!

OK. Just how is someone who (1) does not worship Satan, and (2) refuses to listen to 'both kinds of music (Country AND Western)' supposed to find out about these fantastic give-aways?

Does KRNA still get phone calls when **any** local station plays "Hey Jude?"
