Greg is a consumate pro, has a unique style and a quick wit and has NEVER sounded old or anything other than on top of it during his time at KIRO - so it's sad. Sadder yet is the slow motion destruction - implosion - of a once huge signal. I've mocked Doris Monson over the years - rightfully so - but am never really happy hearing these rumors. For one thing - I've been in this situation more than once and it makes for a lot of Maalox moments. For another - imagine you're Dori and get zipped. Yes, he'll get a decent severance - but honestly, where will he go to work? That annoying, nasal whine and routine of puffing up his chest while boasting of breaking a story or wanting to beat on someone will not play in a decent sized market anywhere else in America. Dave Ross would probably end up on NPR - local or national - but where would/could Dori go?
They oughtta just admit that KIRO has been messed up for years now, pull the plug and go dark for a week and then re-emerge with all new staff, attitude and calls with a very focused marketing campaign and plan. Much better than chipping away a position at a time. You can only make so many runs at the castle - like being "the all new" KIRO - before the peasants lose interest.
