Greg Hill To Be Syndicated????

On today's Hillman morning show, he made a couple "coy" statements like "Yeah, there's a station in Portland (Maine) that would be great for the Hillman Morning Show" and then another comment along the same lines, and it just kinda seemed he was hinting at something. He also mentioned he has a summer home up there. Maybe this is in the works???

Is it just me - or has that show really gone down the drain over the past two years? They used to be original and funny - and now - it's just repetitive and dull. Mantown was a good idea, but has run its cource, and making of fun of Spaz is just getting way too old. . .

Just my opinion of cource, but I used to love that show, and now find that I can't stand it anymore. I really think losing Mike Hsu and Chris Engel (way back in the day) brought down the show substancially - they brough balance and brains to the show - now the show is just 3 guys that are way too similar to eachother.

It could be getting old...I've only been listening for just under a year, so I wasn't around during the Mike Hsu days, I do like to listen....Even though they can be extremely hetero at times LOL but they can be funny, and I like LB's sports updates. It's a nice break from D & C.

I agree, which is why I haven't listened to Hill much over the last 3 years or so. Between AAF's awful repetition of the same bands and same songs, Hill's show got worse and worse. Hsu was awesome and I can't figure out why they fired Chris Engel (unless he was stepping on Kevin or Greg's shoes). Spaz is the same recycled bad beat-on-the-producer bits...it's just gotten way too stale.

Couldn't agree more. I used to listen to Hillman every morning, but now it's about the 8th option I go to on the radio....besides Mike Hsu the station is stale and doesn't have an edge to it

I believe kevin barbare is one of the most talented guys in radio...he really seems to make the show, but he's nto a great host on his own but iwht others around him i believe he makes the show just that much better. i don't listen nearly as much now as i did say a year or two ago, but spaz also was an integral part to that show because his bizzare on air persona(or could be just his everyday persona) always created conversation between my friends/co workers and i and almost became a water cooler type conversation (except there's no water coolers where i work). But back to the original topic, i have heard greg mention a few things about syndication and i believe o & a auditioned the show on theirs for a morning, but nothing more than pure speculation.

If by "audition" you mean they had one of their listeners call in and play the show over the phone to O and A, then yes. Given yor sincere love of waaf which has been expressed over and over again I dont see it taking that much to provoke water cooler conversation about the show between you and your cohorts.

In terms of syndication however does Entercom own any properties in Portland Maine? that would make sensen if so. Syndication is a tricky deal matty tried it a few years ago and failed miserably and whether you like him or not at that time his show was very compelling, nothing but A list guests (Tom Cruise etc) and he was still top of his game and known throughout the market even by those who do not listen to Kiss, beyond their P1's I odnt think the same cann be said of "The Hill man" though.

O&A occasionally do a bit having thier listeners hold thier phone to the radio so O&A can hear the morning shows around the country. They typically do this to TOOL on the lame mrning radio show hosts, bits & skits going on aroung the lame ol' USA.

Trust me, O&A did NOT audition the show. O&A know all about Greg's morning gig and Greg's typical A&R boring bits are EXACTLY what they DON'T want for XM 202. Greg's show played for less than 5 minutes and when the caller said he was playing Greg's show, Opie's opinion was in a very "sigh, ugh & bored" tone of voice. Greg wouldn't see the light of day on XM 202.

mm yes because us "blue collar" guys are easily amused by t & a radio...i said spaz was what was provoking the discussion because someone said he is becoming stale...on most jobsites, there is a lot of chatter about spaz and how many people played football with him or saw him at the bar...must be doing something right...and i definitly read somewhere on o & a's website that greg was one of the shows "auditioned", didn't know that it was just the callers holding the phone up.

I don't know how well other markets would respond to hillman, he's too local. it would work better down in rhode island, but the signal is decent down there already, and greg and the morning buzz are fairly popular up in NH. i'm claiming ignorance on knowing anything about Maine radio, but i don't think Greg would fair too well unless the show changed drastically, and i don't see that happening

Nope. Entercom owns nothing in Portland, Maine, but they do own quite a few in Portland, Oregon. Any chance that Hill was refering to that market?

The only station that Hill would be syndicated onto in Portland would be the modern rock simulcast of 93.9 WCYI (northern Portland suburbs) and 94.3 WCYY (Portland and southern suburbs). It's owned by Citadel.

Except fo John Tesh on 'HOM Citadel is pretty much local.Nassau on the other hand is about to lose Stern on the Bone. That's a possibility. The Bone has Stern on in the am ,Nikky from the HAWK in N.J. on middays voicetracked,Local Murphy in the afternoon and Alice Cooper at night.

Did I say "blue collar types"? no actually I did not. I did say though that you do have a previously expressed positive demeanor toward waaf in most posts, so in that context it doesn't seem like it would take much for them to promote positive water cooler talk between you and your friends because you are predisposed to liking them very much as you've pointed out many times with your opinions.

You brought up T & A and your blue collar status, then again if the work boot fits.........

my apologies...it's tough to weed out sarchasm on the internet. for the record, i am anti t & a radio, mantown was a great idea at first that has lost its fun and charm. aaf fan? yes i definitly am...but not as much as i used to be (i actually find myself tuning into bcn' more often than not now). no harm meant by my snapbacks wiz :) ok now back to my day job.

How can you be Anti T & A radio when you used to post favorably about guys like Rocko? and to a lesser degree Ozone

that was all that the jocks you seem to have liked were about.

Well i got to say that I know a lot of people in thier 20s who are big fans of Hillman. They have an entertaining show, and Spaz is funny because what he does on the show is who he really is. He's a guy in his late 20s that many people my age (21) can relate to, going out to bars and picking up chicks and what not. Anyway there are a lot of people i know who listen to Hillman and he's been on the air now at AAF for 16 years so that says something about him and his program.

Rocko was fantastic...when i was 15/16...it was great when i could flip on the raido afterschool and hear the program rocko used to run, but nwo that i'm older (even 2 years ago i would have liked to hear rocko back on) it just doesn't interest me anymore. And you and i have disagreed about ozone for as long as i have been posting here, you think he sucks i thought he was awesome(still do), i just enjoy off the wall humor like that, ozone wasn't t & a. But hey to each their own opinion

I used to listen to the AAF morning show now and again, but after Hsu left I pretty much quit entirely. There's just not much left anymore worth hearing, aside from Kevin's material. The other comment was right on, he's great with a group of folks and with writing material, but has a tough time carrying as the main host. The oh-so-non-PC dork Spaz and ex-con-toughguy LB have about three things to say and they have been said already ad nauseum. Greg was OK when he had Hsu to balance his "hey I'm one of you blue collah right wingaz too" bit, without it he's a bit of a blowhard that skews way too much toward the swarming mass of righty talk show radio hosts.

I moved out to Phoenix recently, their hard rock station is most of the way to where AAF should be. They play actual current harder-edge rock and roll, and the morning show is a riot without being a political tirade on the target of the day. Comfortably Numb is NOT heard on KUPD, thank you very much, and the morning show guys are actually funny without being stooges or mean asses.
