Greggo/Hardline Divorce Article

What happened with the heckler in the crowd at the end of the segment?

Seems like this whole thing opened up some old wounds that were starting to heal. Got to give them credit for addressing this as quickly as they did. To ignore it and not address it would have been a huge mistake IMHO

Dont' know.........I had to peel-off shortly after the "buffalo" started moving.

Yeah, it did sound like the crew were talking about things they'd rather not and would have preferred to let lay but felt some mention was required. Corby talking about the number of times he talked to Greggo after the "incident" and asking him if drugs were involved only to have him deny it.......Danny and Rhyner talking about how they felt that Williams had turned his back on them through indulgence and a lack of care for the program and anyone else's well-being. It was good radio and I enjoyed the segment.

Maybe Williams will find radio employment somewhere.....Austin......San Antonio........OKC.....if he can stay straight and all. Here? After all of this?

seems like everyone has had their say, nothing that can be said now will change anyone's mind.
Maybe time to let sleeping dogs lie....... Richie

Ritchie did the right thing, he wrote an honest and candid expose about someone locally in the media, who has issues, and how that one station operated in that matter. If it gets his and the observers "ticket" rights cut and they're no longer allowed up there, I say they're better for it in the longrun.

I also heard the hardliners address this yesterday, sounded like they wanted to crawl into a hole. Im of the belief of putting it out there on the line and saying your piece, at the end of the day your better for it...

I realllllly don't see how anyone can feel sorry for Greggo here. He had his bout with the painkillers...I'll give him that one. He shoulda learned from that. But then to drag the show down, not care about the other hosts, get coked up on company time...all while making 500K???...Cmon. He's an idiot plain and simple.

Don't know if I would blame anyone in this situation. Greggo had his problems and the other guys had to figure out how to deal with them. I truly feel sorry for everyone involved.

I'm with you. You can be mad at Greggo, but he suffers from an illness. Even though he doesn't deserve endless second chances (especially in a professional environment), I see no reason to withhold sympathy or prayers in his direction.

And like Danny said on the show yesterday, even family members during an intervention will threaten to never speak to the stricken family member again -- if he or she won't get help. None of us on the outside are in a position to judge the reactions of Greggo's co-workers. This thing went on for years. Some are probably making their best attempts at tough love, and others are just reacting as best they can. Every individual has a different length of rope he can offer.

Hope Greggo kicks today's a$$, too.

I guess where I draw the line is that the guy sufferers from a very real mental illness (OCD) and that from that way it was presented, his best "friend" and partner turned his back on him years ago, not offering any help in his time of need. Not to mention his employer screwed him after he believed they gave him an option to get it together, all the while dancing on his grave. That, IMHO, is what really got me in this whole situation.

Let's quit feeling sorry for Gregg. The station and his friends put up with 14 years of lying. They helped him thru his addiction to pain killers, and then by all accounts tried to get him thru the coke mess, but he screwed it up. There comes a point that you have to turn your back for your own protection, to protect yourself, and the show.... The only person to blame in this is Greggo, period... Having known him since before the Ticket, I can assure you that just putting up with his day to day moodiness for 14 years is a miracle, much less the drugs and lies. I remember a time when he got mad about something at the station and didn't talk to anyone for a month, I mean nobody! He would only talk on the air! To Rhyners credit, it never showed on the air, and he fought thru it for the show. Finally it took a very angry Coop to set him straight. Trust me people, this is not over, and to put blame anywhere but at Gregg's feet would be a mistake.

This article in the Observer was a great piece of journalism. I think it probably cut as close to the truth of the matter as anything else that's been written. It is probably slanted a little in Williams' favor just because he was the primary interview subject. However, I didn't come away feeling sorry for him or upset with the folks at the Ticket. This was all his fault. Sitting here reading a story about this situation does not really give any of us the personal sense of what it was like to be a co-worker of Williams for 14 years. You don't know what your emotions would be at the point that he came back for the final meeting. I can't imagine how I would feel. The only people that know are the ones who were there. There's no reason to be pissed at Corby or Mike when Greggo brought this on himself.

At this point, I hope Williams stays clean and makes a living doing something he enjoys. I doubt that will include hearing him on the radio though. My knowlege of the situation at ESPN tells me they won't hire him. He might get on at some dinky AM outfit or something, but I doubt he'll be doing big time radio again in this market.

Regardless of the situation and all the drama surrounding this. Ultimately, it's always sad to me when a good hosts career gets derailed like this.

Listening In said:
As someone at the Mothership during this time, I can tell you that Corby and Danny "taking up the slack" is exactly what happened. Greg was not pushed out. That is Greg's perception. Greg did this to himself.

As far as "full disclosure from The Ticket," it has been said one thousand times ... in today's sue happy society, it is best not to say anything at all. I know everyone is dying for the dirty details, but we'll have to survive on what Greggo chooses to say.

I wish him the best and I hope the peace he is experiencing now stays with him.

I guess, it's a sign of "the times" when the message really is . . .

"We can't afford to tell you the truth"

But we all loe spin masters.....

We all love a good yarn...

This is "for entertainment purposes", and you know when it's hitting the mark, or not....

The most entertaining radio I have listened to in the last five years.... has come from The Ticket, and NOT from any of the creepy morning "talk--blab" shows on the other Dallas stations....

For the sake of clarification, let me state that I dont agree with Gregs behavior in this whole situation, especially the drug usage, but I understand the underlying reason are real mental illnesses(OCD/Depression) that need and hopefully are being treated. Like I said previously, I just found the behavior of his "friends", co-workers and employer deplorable in this situation. Some of that maybe due to HIPPA/Privacy laws, other maybe that they're just as narcisstic as the party represented in the article, but wont admit to their problems.

As a side note: The Hardline at present has become alot less about sports and more about the "Uptown Dallas"/ "Barley House" scene that Corby and Danny like to portray on air, not to mention the countless "Petty Theft" plugs Mike likes to toss out. Ive lost alot of respect for this show and its hosts.

Now this we agree on...

Does anyone have the current Hardline's rebuttal from Thursday?  I only caught half of one segment.  Would love to hear the whole thing.

Well whatever they talk about, they still makes me laugh. I wish Greg was still there and this never happened, but it did and we all have to move on.
