Greggo looking for a job?

As I hear it, Greggo has been making calls looking for a job...Including calling the guy who he got his start, and nickname from, but was turned down. If true, which I think it is, this leads one to think he already knows it is over at the Ticket.

Interesting......

Sounds like Rhyner is turning his back on his old friend due to company pressures. The Hardline isnt the same w/o Greggo, Hopefully he should fall on his feet, possibly in TV.

Well.. Like Inigo said- "When things go wrong, you go back to the beginning" And hooking up with Galloway would be the beginning for the Hammer. I think its the only place he could do radio here in Dallas. Outside of that, he would fall somewhere else WAY down the market ladder or simply out of the business. I don't think he has any opportunities in TV.

Or quite possibly, his own show on the Worldwide Leader. Can you imagine the ratings jack they would get for that one? GAC and Greggo is just too much. Galloway wouldn't give him two inches outside of his mustache. Give Greggo hate's old gig. I know I would stop down for that daily... and that's a first for this listener when it comes to KESN.

Gregg would be the silver bullet for the local ESPN contingent. If they're smart, they'll pick em up post-non compete clause and have him pull over some of the Ticket staff as well.

Except that greggo solo is a BRUTAL listen. Totally unable to pull off basic formatics and make it sound natural.

That's why Greggo was the perfect sidekick/2nd bananna/cohost/whathaveyou...He didn't have to 'carry' the show by himself...

Add in that he's not the greatest interviewer in the word, a la....
"Do you like your gig, that wasn't the question, do you like your job"
and I wonder if a major company is going to take a chance on a guy who's been through rehab twice now...

I agree with Little1 on this. Greggo is a good 2nd fiddle but cannot be a lead talent. He's horrible in that role. He must be surrounded with good people to carry the show. He's an ensemble guy and not a lead talent. Greg can interject good points or humorous observations but isn't going to be able to do 5-10 minute narratives. Ever.

Greggo was mediocre at best during his heyday (4-5 years ago), and it has gone downhill ever since then. I think they kept him around because he became a drop machine, but other than that didn't contribute anything. I swear you could read the Dallas Morning News sports page before each show and predict his responses. I think you people are giving him way too much credit when you say that he can find another job in this market. I think it's time to go back to bar tending.

Don't get me wrong... he blows driving the bus, but great riding shotgun. I was thinking more like a "Good Fellas" scenario. Hammer brings the publicity, but someone lesser can up the personality and provide the witty interviews.

Oh, and he always needs a yuk monkey.

As for the worldwide leader taking a chance on a twice-rehab guy, it's about the Benjamins (ratings). They would be willing.

Greggo was indeed a role player on that show. A strong sidekick but not a lead guy. IMO, Greggo brought a flavor that was distinct from all the others on the Hardline. The major players, Rhynes, Danny, Corby... they're all more alike than they are different. They are all kind of slack jawed hipsters with a downtown (or uptown) flavor. While Greggo was sort of the country bumpkin imported from wise county. The rest of the crew picked on Greggo a lot... mainly making fun of his idiosyncrasies, or misstatements. What made that listenable was the fact that Greggo was very confident, and their jabs never seemed to affect him much... that kind of attitude makes it easier for the listener to laugh along with the rest of the crew. He couldn't have been their whipping boy w/o that confidence. His confidence also made his mistakes more humorous... when he would misstate something and then reemphasize it, or yell... that was a riot. When he went off on Expo for the thing about Brett Farve and Vicodin... his absolute certainty in his own rightness made that very entertaining.

It's doubtful they will ever have that kind of chemistry again... for the most part "like seeks like"... and that show was great b/c it had a mixture of different flavors.

As someone that has listened all along, Hammer has his place, and I agree with those before that it is not as the main talent. Listening to him sans Rhyner (not dead) taking it into and coming out of breaks was painful at best. But he does have a value, assuming he is past the problems. I hope for his sake that is the case regardless what happens professionally. You have to enjoy someone that refers to the homeland of Haitian residents as Hay-shu. :)

ESPN would be smart to at least consider the option. Mosely is a former Ticket promo guy, and maybe in the off-season you bring in Kickballhead Followill to supplement. Or maybe 105.3 could look at replacing that junk from 11 to...no wait from 3 to...just about anything over there.

I never quite bought the country bumpkin bit. How many country bumpkins do you know that wear the shirts that Greggo wears and that brag about how quickly they can fold bed sheets and iron jeans for crying out loud???

I do find it ironic that the Ticket, which isn't afraid to take on taboo subjects, have to keep their mouths shut about Greggo.

Actually it makes perfect sense, if this thing winds up in court. If that's the case, The Ticket would want to stay mute, for fear anything they did say could be used against them.

And Greggo is the fist person in radio with OCD? Me thinks not!

Agreed...that week he was by himself was tough. Aside from the classic "do you like this gig" with the "commish" interview that week, I also remember him interviewing Eric Lindross, who had just signed as a free agent with the Dallas Stars. He asked him one question and then told him he didn't know anything else about hockey and was out of questions. The remaining questions were about what he did off-season (fishing or something) and if he was single since Dallas is full of hot single women. Needless to say, since Lindross had entered the NHL as the next big thing and played in markets where the sport is covered, he must have wondered what backwoods market he was coming to...

I wish him well...obviously, there are only a small number of slots in this market, so getting another on-air gig will be tough. Still wonder what will happen to the afternoon show... the show does need some other voice in there.

I don't think 103.3 will touch the Husky Hammer. He is on strike 2...
