Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

That's one helluva long fall. He was in the perfect situation with the perfect ensemble for him to succeed at the Ticket and will never capture that magic again. He's done.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

It's definitely a fall, and he may or may not ever return to big market radio. However, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. He's got a job. It's probably not where he wants to be, but any job is a good job right now. I know a lot of radio people who'd kill for any job in the industry, even in Seymour, TX or any other podunk town.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

I have info that I've been asked to keep quiet. However, I can assure you not to feel sorry for Greg or John. They're just warming up for a really killer project that will cover many areas.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

Don't know if this is what you are speaking of, but I would not be surprised if The Fan brought in Greggo for afternoon drive....It may be getting to turn into desperate times for them and desperate times call for desperate measures.....

Please don't confuse our curiosity for us feeling sorry for him. It is a damn shame how many opportunities this guy has screwed up, continuing to let his demons get the best of him.

And if he has a job in radio AND is out of this city living near a beach, I really ain't too upset for him...

Seymour isn't anywhere near a beach. More like a lot of scrub oaks and cows around that town.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

Witchita falls 1230 espn & Amarillo 1440 kzrk.
Greg sounded good today, best hammer I've heard in 5 years.
I'm a big fan, he just creeps up on ya somehow.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

I'm sure the money is great there... :)

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

Another dose of reality here, if you please. Calling KSEY a Wichita Falls station is really a stretch. Even with Radio-Locator's generous "coverage maps" the station can't make a dent: www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KSEY&service=AM&status=L&hours=U

The effective daytime range of KSEY is around a 25-mile radius, depending on how you define "listenable"; their tower is almost 50 miles from downtown Wichita Falls. So during the day the signal from Seymour is clinically dead, and at night it does well to get out of town.

The signal on KSEY makes it from Duncan Ok to N Abilene. The electro-conductivity due to the aquifer up there makes it run. I've been helping Wolfe for years, and I know that signal inside and out. Night time is dead you are correct. Day time is very similar to the map you posted. When I've driven up to work on his transmitter, I pick up 1230 sketchy in Decatur, clearly from Bowie. The daytime radius is more like 100 miles, I should know. I've worked on that thing forever. It's a pile of shit, but it's the fartherest reaching 1kW AM I've ever worked with. I'm actually in the process of redoing the ground system radials to the SE and putting a loop on it as well.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

You're right. KSEY has excellent daytime coverage but an impressive signal on a car radio is of little consequence; they simply don't deliver a signal that can cut through all of the man-made static and target the listener at home or at work. I can hear two other stations on 1230 fighting it out on I-30 in downtown Dallas; KWTX Waco and KSST Sulphur Springs both have good coverage but are their signals really usable, or should I say, "listenable" that far away (roughly 88 and 71 miles respectively)?

I wonder what percentage of the listeners in Wichita Falls are aware that there is only one AM station in town. I'd guess that if they fall in the target demo for talk radio they might know that's the case, although the last time I checked WBAP was still beating KWFS 1290. That being said, I admit that KSEY can promote itself as a Wichita Falls station if it wants to but in reality the potential audience isn't home or doesn't care.

Re: Greggo on 1230 Corpus...

did anyone know or care about little ol 5kW 1310 before the ticket made it the #1 billing station in the market? and with the technology of streaming on both pc's and mobile devices, I think they can make it work. I hear what you're saying, but I've listened to the signal from Abilene to Wfalls (downtown). It's there, it's just all about what you put on it. It was a tex mex station for the last decade, so there is a rebranding window to overcome for sure.

The former station listeners probably have the same chance to understand him as we do.
