Is it true Grego is out at The Blitz over payola?

From what I heard - Grego and the morning show folks had an appearance last Saturday and they were supposed to be there at, like 2. Grego showed up at 6:30 with an attitude and they fired him then and there. Basically they were tired of his attitude, considering his numbers didn't warrant the attitude he was carrying. That's what I heard from someone who was actually at the appearance. If you ask The Blitz, Grego is gone but the other two are staying,

WBZX removed the Grego Show longo from their main page as of this morning.
Also, this morning, They made the following statement on the air.... They said that
"Grego has been released from his contract. No further information is available
and officials said that no further statements are planed".

Grego mentioned on the air several times that he has worked for several years in the Dallas and Houston market so maybe he wasn't very happy working in the Columbus market.... Dose any one
think he will stay in Columbus??? He seems to me to be pretty talented to me.

Maybe they should just play all music in the morning. The morning Blitz juke-box, no crap, all rock 6 - 10 am.

The tough thing for former "major" market types such as Grego is when they start to flounder in a "small" market such as Columbus. It becomes everybody's fault except for Grego's.

Grego was fired at the Blitz Bash. I was there and I saw it. It was a strange scene. I think there were about a dozen of us who witnessed it. I don't know what all was said, but I know I heard them arguing about what time Grego got to the bash and how he wasn't allowed to do anything. I guess the guy was his boss. I think the one they call Hal. At one point, I thought he was going to punch Grego. Now that would have been funny! Listening last week, the show with Randi was unlistenable. But when she was gone later in the week, it was actually good, which shocked me. But she was back today and it was pretty lame. I don't know if it was because of her or it just happened that way. Today was the first time I ever heard her and Ronni together. It was ok at a couple moments, but pretty bland overall. It will never be what it was when Grego was there.

Funny thing is I keep seeing posts all over by people saying they never thought the Blitz could replace Howard, but Grego did it. I really liked the Grego show. But he did not replace Howard. Sorry, but no one can replace Howard. At least not the public radio Howard before satellite. Grego did not replace Howard or the ratings for that matter. But he was a lot closer than I think the current show will get. And the name, "Not the new show" or whatever it is. That has to be the gayest thing I ever heard in the history of radio. I guess Randy and Mo and Ronni are doing their best. Probably just thrown to the wolves with no choice.

I appreciate your comments on Grego and the Blitz, but not your analogy to " the gayest thing." This implies that being gay is lame. It is not. It is a sexual orientation. I have a lot of friends who are gay and lesbian. They are not lame. Thank you.

The Hal you mentioned is the PD of 'BZX, Hal Fish. He has been the PD of The Blitz since the station's inception in July 1992.

Al, it would only insinuate that being gay was lame if I was using the homosexual definition of the word as the description. I was not. Gay also means happy, remember? I also have gay friends. And I would tell them the same thing. And regardless of my use of the word, I did not receive any type of contract at birth that granted me full immunity from being offended and neither did you. Lighten up.

Alans, yeah, that is him. He was there before that, too. When it was old rock, he went by the name Kingfish on the air.

Al, I agree the phrase "that's so gay" is dumb, but from what I can tell it's not generally intended as anti-homosexual. I don't know whether "gay" in this context derives from homosexual or not. The phrase has been around for ages. I think South Park re-popularized it. I've seen my niece use it in a lighthearted way in front of her gay friends, and they laugh. I've also seen gays use it. OTOH. one really offensive word that has unfortunately and outrageously been given "legitimacy" as socially acceptable is "queer." Some gay activists took it upon themselves to make a dubious and presumptuous "decision" that having gays use that phrase to describe themselves would deflate its sting. So now the many homosexuals who have been hurt by, and still recoil from, that epithet are supposed to welcome it.

The should put Opie & Anthony from 6-9 and have Blazor do another hour. O&A used to be on afternoons and Rover was in the mornings on The Big Wazoo. But they switched formats and changed to a country station. Bring O&A back to the state's capital!
