Greta Van Susteren out at MSNBC after six months

I agree with BigA. She never was one to cheerlead for one side or the other. Her views seemed to me anti-establishment, no matter which establishment was in power in Washington.

For that reason, her show was always a weird fit between Chris Matthews and Chris Hayes. If I had programmed MSNBC, I might have tried Greta at an earlier hour. Either swap her and Matthews, or possibly pair her with Andrea Mitchell in early afternoons.

I think MSNBC thought they could put her in the 6PM slot, not a great one for a cable talk show and pull the kind of numbers she had at FNC. If so, that was an unrealistic expectation. Not sure she'll be back on TV. She had about a 22 year run. Not bad.

She always struck me as a very competent journalist.

The fact that she is struggling to hold a job indicates that the cable nets
are only interested in:

a) Hot Blondes

or

b) Ideological Purity

Greta is actually not a journalist. She is a lawyer and a commentator.

The cable news channels (they are not networks) are interested in:

a) ratings
and
b) profits

Maybe she will relax awhile and it will dawn on her, "Wait a minute! I have all the credentials I need to do what I want to do on my own! What the heck am I looking or waiting for?".

I always thought that Greta being on MSNBC wasn't a good fit from the start. Greta could go back to CNN I thought that was where she was going after she left Fox News.

Compare what she does to other TV hosts. She seems better suited to PBS than a commercial channel. Maybe that's her next stop.

Umm what show on PBS if Greta Van Susteren were to really go there? Is it going to be like the McLaughlin Group type show or is it going to be Washington Week or To the Contrary?

More like Tavis Smiley, I'd think.

She's not exactly a traditional journalist, so she doesn't fit into either. She could launch her own weekly legal show. She could become a regular part of the PBS NewsHour.

PBS Newshour? no way WETA-TV the owners of PBS Newshour is going to hire Van Susteren? I was thinking talk show for Van Susteren since that's what we judge her for that.

I wouldn't hitch my career to CNN right now. Not with the firestorm surrounding
Trump videos going on.
