The full timers were there "for a long time beyond THEIR ratings"?
The air staff has total control of and responsibility for all aspects of everything that influences ratings?
Actually, riding the wave of Modern AC, the station pretty consistently pulled upper twos to lower threes (not great, but not bad) for a long time through the mid to late 90s and up until just, say, three years ago. (I hope this isn't violating rules mentioning ratings. Since the previous poster's remarks weren't pulled, I guess being this vague about it is OK?)
The morning show still KILLS in a couple female cells. They're the station's cash cow. In many ways their morning drive numbers are stronger now than they've ever been. Alot of that has to do with the stability and longevity.
It wasn't until the whole Paula Cole/Sarah McLaughlin/Alanis Morrisette thing finally died out and the post-modern "too cool for school" imaging got stale that the non-morning drive numbers took a dive to the levels they're at now. Musically, the station has never really found a place to go that brought the numbers they used to get.
Rather than just criticising the management for the low ratings (rightly so, perhaps), how about also giving them some props for sticking with a core group of people on air that are actually pretty good as they (management) realizes that the air staff isn't the problem? (And, no, I'm not one of them - but am envious of their tenure.)
If they can get the music going again, they won't have to reinvent everything with a new staff.
Refreshing, actually...
