You mean Griffith Park?

Wow...that's the most i've seen....I gots to go up there and check it out myself

What kind of set up, receiver and antenna? I would think that KYSR, 98.7, which is fairly nearby would stomp all over a 98.9 out of TJ.

Depending on the exact parking location, terrain could shield KYSR and make first adjacent channel reception possible nearby. That could also apply to the Mount Wilson stations since they could be knocked down a bit from the hill.

I'm also thinking that the weather has something to do with the SD stations coming in so strong. When I was a student at UCLA and even here at my house in Azusa, the San Diego stations seems to come loud and clear when it is a hot clear day. Sometimes they even overpower LA stations. But as soon the the weather changes I lost most of them.

I was curious about the setup because even with terrestrial shielding you would need some kind of antenna with a bit of directionality. Auto receivers are good for picking out signals but the antennas that are standard basically suck.

I used to get that in North Hollywood at times and it seemed to favor San Diego. I always attributed it to tropospheric conditions during very settled warm weather with a high pressure system laying over the Southland which corresponds to your observation. I noticed that more in California than back in Ohio, where E-Layer skip used to bring in Cuban TV stations near Dayton. However I do recall getting Indianapolis TV by turning our antenna which could have been likely the weather as it only happened at certain times of the year and it didn't fade quickly like the Cuban TV did which sometimes lasted only a couple of minutes. The Indiana stations might come in for a day or two, snowy but watchable, before disappearing again.

I never tried FM back then though sometimes I would use the big TV antenna to see how far I could pick up from, usually no more than a hundred or rarely a hundred and fifty miles. But Ohio is very flat compared to California. In the fifties and sixties most FM stations back there were on their co-owned AM towers so not very high up from the ground.

You'll be surprised, but I used my I-Pod Nano 5th Generation at the top of Griffith Park Observatory. I'm surprise this little device can pick up adjacent channels clearly.
