Why, since they started stunting yesterday does all the music seem to be in mono? (seriously)...switch from 105.7 "the groove" to one of the other music stations and then back again. Haven't listened much today but all day yesterday it was in mono.
The stations audio processor probably has a way to limit the L-R (stereo seperation) to help eliminate coverage issues.
Most of the music they are playing is very "wide".....it has a lot of the "stereo" effect. Music with lots of stereo has a difficult time in a multipath enviroment - tall buildings and hills cause multipath (signal reflections that compete with the main signal in your radio.)
Another technical factor - "rimshot" stations usually have a weaker signal in much of the desired coverage area which causes some radios to go into "blend." This is a technique used by radio manufacturers to eliminate listener complaints about noise - as the signal gets weaker the stereo separation is narrowed and the high frequencies are attenuated - this helps eliminate the noise, or "hiss" you would otherwise hear.
My guess is they have narrowed the stereo seoaration to improve fringe coverage.
Thems ClearChannel engineers are smart boys.........
