Groove 730 AM - Now On the Air!

I have to agree about the music. Too much Billy Joel, and too much carry over from AC. We already have two AC stations in Charlotte and don't need a third.

I don't like it. It's too loud.

Still, I'll keep a button for those times I don't have anything else. Like most oldies stations this one should have some songs I like. I did hear "The Twist" which was very surprising for a station that doesn't seem to want to use the word "oldies"--at least The Charlotte Observer didn't. Speaking of which, Mark Washburn still thinks the station is called "Groove".

Station website says "Groove".

Oldies on the radio is a dead format. I have a better selection on my iPod. Music on the radio is so unnecessary. I discover more new music on the internet and TV than I do the radio.

I'm taking back the credits I stated before about this station. Way too much classic Rock. They sound like 99.7 the fox in A.M. mono sound. Back to playing the cd's again.

The Z needs a better varietyof music. I agree with a post earlier that says they are playing to much classic hits which really does not set them apart from other Charlotte stations. The station needs to be more like Majic 94.1 with a bigger variety of music and some promotional help. Think they need a leader that has experience in the format and the sales savy to put some revenue on the station. This is a small window of opportunity that needs to be handled quicly. Over all the station has a chance with that big "day time" signal.

The station also sounds kind of crunched to me. Go out and buy yourself a decent multiband audio processor and get everything you can out of that 5 kHz. Maybe stick some reverb on the mics. Music can actually sound semi-decent on AM…listen to 1150am; now that’s the way music on AM should sound.

I must say the live afternoon guy that started this week is not bad at all. And when the music is not from the satellite service they used last week and I guess they are using nights and overnights it is a bit better. Heard "Gitarzan" by Ray Stevens today. Going to be patient and give them a little time. Hope they listen to some of the great suggestions others are making on this topic.

Launching an attack on the Charlotte market with a new Classic Hits radio station is difficult and it is even more difficult with an AM stick. Musically the station does not sound bad but feel they need some professional help for this is a new area for them. Radio in Lincolnton is entirely different that radio in Charlotte. I even heard a promotional announcement about advertising on the station and how cheap it way! If they are to have a change for any degree of success in this venture they desperately need to get up to speed in a number of areas and do it quickly. (Programming (music and on Air presentation), Marketing/Promotion, Engineering, and most likely sales).

Not to mention that's the kind of music worth hearing.

I honestly think these guys are on the right track but need some help! Music is for the most part coming from the satellite but the image material is not being utilized properly and is often not consistent. Music is not under thier control so we'll just have to make the best of it. Image or slug lines are very inconsistent, one person says this and the other says that. There are several options but not sure they are up for the challenge. While radio is not new to these guys, making an attack on Charlotte is a whole new ball game.

I heard GT a little while Thursday afternoon... what I impressed with was he was talking over the intros of songs and hitting the hitpoint on a song perfectly... something we did so commonly when we had turntables and carts for music - seems to be a lost art in the world of computer music.
When programming the music of this era, hitting that intro so well is consistent with what we did then - and it sounds great today.

When the log called for the weather forecast, I always liked picking a song with no less than a :25 sec intro so I could do the forecast over the intro to "nail" the first lyric. And not to get off topic (of 730 AM), it was also self-gratifying to back time a record plus ID to hit the TOH news. Oh, the memories of carts, vinyl, and the aroma of PCBs. You just can't buy memories like that!

Why is it the "New Z730" is so out of the loop? I am sick and tired of hearding the same old things day in and day out, like the promo for advertising at $30 a spot. The jocks seem to be running very loose with little or no direction. You can hear the slogan of the day between the three air shifts. What a shame for I honestly felt they had a chance at fame and glory but they are way out of their league.

One think I think they never will understand, they can never program that the same way as if they had a big 100KW FM footprint. They can't turn a 400 title short list. They have got to be different, inserting many 'wow factor' tunes, as well as the default safe oldies! Also, stay away from lame a--s AC stuff, or classic rock! Play oldies!

again, i ask all of the professionals on the board to offer support and constructive criticism--why are we "out of the loop?" what "slogan of the day" is bothering you? what is "running very loose"? remember the days of real radio when jocks discussed what was going on around them, were personable and weren't simply reading liner cards? this is what we're doing--and enjoying--and doing it the way it was done before accountants and guys focused merely on the bottom line got way too involved...i'd love to hear ideas and youn may either post or e mail me privately...if we professionals stick together and not simply throw mud and bash, perhaps something may actually make a difference...just my two cents

Listened driving home from work today and the afternoon guy could be Boomer Voncannon’s brother. He played some good up tempo oldies. I could also tell that someone has improved the audio processing of the station. Much cleaner, better presence, with less boominess and naturally it now sounds louder. Liz, who’s the stations engineer feller?

I haven't heard the station yet [live near Fayetteville] but if you're Z730, and Z730 is doing local radio, with local people, talking for and to local people and local businesses [and maybe a little satellite from time to time], more power to you, and long may you prosper [even if your processing isn't changing my life and the song selection isn't song-for-song straight from my mp3 player]!
