Groove 730 AM - Now On the Air!

I am not hearing alot of Charlotte advertising on the station. They are running that dumb spot that advertises $30 commercials but not sure they are getting many takers.

The jocks seem to be running very loose with little or no direction. You can hear the slogan of the day between the three air shifts.

It's my understanding that they don't have a PD, that would account for the jocks not always being on the same page as far as station positioning. While it may be a jock's dream to not have to answer to a PD, it makes it hard to deliver a consistent product.

Think you maybe right on the PD thing. They seem to be getting a tad better but there is very little consistency. Afternoon show is closer to being what they should be than any of the other shows. Think I had mentioned in an earlier post they needed a leader for it sounds that they do not have one!

Hi, Liz. Just heard the station today for the first time. Glad to see your posts. It's good to have Z-730 on the air.

I'm in Greensboro and can hear it pretty well on daytime power. The signal seemed as strong as WKIX. That's impressive, because their signal should be considerably stronger here.

I hope to hear you on the air when I can get away from work for a minute. Cool to see your mention of CKLW on the website! Best of luck to all of you.

It may be refreshing but do not feel it will ever be a factor in the Charlotte market. There are lots of problems but the major problem is the day / night pattern. The signal cannot be heard in Charlotte until the "day time" power adjustment which means they miss part of morning drive and later in the year will also miss the bulk of afternoon drive. There is no real consistency to the on air delivery and no Charlotte Traffic. I commend these guys for making an attempt to bring Clasic Hits (Oldies) to Charlotte for it is certainly a format that is void in the market. I am sorry to say that I have turned the station off for the signal, processing, lack of local information, and general presentation are desperately in need for upgrading. I wish them well.

Amazing what they can do at night with only 194 watts. I have no trouble hearing them from south charlotte to east Charlotte and Huntersville. That's pretty good coverage for 194 watts!

I live east of charlotte and after 8 pm, Z730 disappears from AM. What would it take for them to have the same coverage as news radio WBT?

I drove from Asheville to Winston-Salem on I-40, and starting picking them up just east of Black Mountain. They were rock solid in Hickory and didn't start fading unitl I got to Winston-Salem. GT was doing the afternoon show and was playing some great music with an an energetic delivery. I enjoyed it very much.

50, 000 watts and a clear channel.

Was the station on the air in their "Oldies" format long enough to have any impact with the latest ratings? I thought they might have had some degree of showing in the 12+ but maybe they were not in the game long enough. Still think the radio station is way out of their league but I have been wrong before.

Listened driving home from work today and the afternoon guy could be Boomer Voncannon’s brother. He played some good up tempo oldies. I could also tell that someone has improved the audio processing of the station. Much cleaner, better presence, with less boominess and naturally it now sounds louder. Liz, who’s the stations engineer feller?

Well, I guess I should be pleased that the processing of the station is appreciated by someone. I may not be considered legendary, but all the same, Thanks!

They are on a clear channel. They've got enough power because they're farther to the left than WBT. You don't need as much power on the left end of the dial.

So, I guess Z's engineer isn't the LEGENDARY Gary Hattaway as Liz Luke indicated a couple of pages back on this thread?

I believe Locomotivelover and Hattaway work together....

I tuned in Monday afternoon and GT was not on the air, they had the satellite service running. Hope this is not an indication of things to come. The satellite service they use is not good.

There is more to it than that. It also helps that they are non-directional.

Yea Locomotive guy the processing sounds great. The station sounds even better when you listen on an old GE Superadio. I should have figured that a younger guy set up the processing, because Hattaway would have to turn up the volume on his hearing aide and those batteries can be very expensive.

;D

There is so much wrong with this station that a little tweaking of the processing, upgrading of the air staff, and whatever else will not change the outcome. I tried to listen since WTHZ left the scene and found it to be a big disappointment. I applaude the folks at 730 but there is just no way it will ever be a Charlotte radio station.
