group formed to save lib talk in Boston Boston Herald

Would be most interesting, were some group to organize to collect money to buy a station, to see how much was actually contributed. Or is it a case of "Money/Mouth Disease"? Y'know, the disease where folks are afraid to put their money where their mouth is.

Despite studies that show public radio’s audience is diverse and its news coverage bias-free, the White House’s hatchet man threatens our most vital source of broadcast news

Uh oh, Mr Limp-Wrist is worried about NPR!

ah yes... an ENLIGHTENED opinion.... nice stereotyping job there. There's a job for you on the Big Show or Dennis and Callahan.

I was reading the "Radio Equalizers" blog this week...

The Radio Equalizer blog?

But also consider that "religious radio" like Family Radio, Moody Bible, etc, get government aid (in a roundabout way due to their "religious" status) to advance their overtly right-wing agenda.

Curious....what is the "government aid" that religious broadcasters get due to their "religious status"?

OK you are entitled to your opinion, but the fact is that Liberal, progressive, or whatever you want to call it talk radio had one foot in the grave in the twin cities, the plug was already pulled, sports radio for the new year, and with less than a month to go, the suits backed down and kept the progressive talk format after a public outcry.

Tax exempt status would be the big "aid" they get, also as a non commercial they get to apply for translators all over the educational/non com space below 92 MHz. Look at K-Love and the like, every possible available LPFM translator whatever that becomes available has an application from them.

----------------------------------------------------------
ANSWER: By FAILING to enact rules to keep (the majority of) religious stations from extracting money out of scared old people, through the use of the brokered-time programs, planting the fear of refusal of so-called salvation to them.

>>When the format is around, people don't do anything to support.
Yet, when it's gone.. they piss and moan like they are owed something....

Yes--what was that song from the 60s: "Where were you when I needed you?
Where were you when I wanted you..."

Doesn't NPR have the SAME "aid"? NPR is Tax Exempt too, right? But somehow that's worse for Religious broadcasters?

(But NPR is polar tax exempt...they actually receive taxes!) ;-)

NPR can apply for translators too, right?

So, NPR gets more "government aid" than religious stations...not the other way around as the poster inferred. (Or is it "implied"? I can never get that right! ;-)

So donating money to a Church should be outlawed?

Time-brokered programming should be done away with?

BTW...I get "fear" every time I listen to Air America!

But, did Air America ever ask you to donate money to them, promising that would help them do "The Lord's" work to supposedly alleviate that "fear"?
