Grown Folk Jamz

Saw this on All Access today and took a listen. This is an internet Urban AC/Old School station from Carter Broadcasting in Kansas City. I really think it sounds pretty good, probably better than many of the more generic Urban AC stations around these days.

I'm liking what I hear too. I liked the ideas that were explained in the full All Access write-up. The audiences for your typical Urban AC, Classic Soul, and Black Gospel stations aren't that dramatically different. So as long as they aren't playing "Between the Sheets" right next to "Never Would Have Made It"--the mixing of music, as explained, won't sound so out of place.

I've always thought that someone should/would develop a urban-based variety hits station, and this might be the best approach. A station that doesn't merely sound like 'an iPod on shuffle', but your cool Uncle Tyrone's or your fly Aunt Keisha's iPod (pardon the name stereotyping).

I think that is a great description of this radio station - Urban AC variety hits.

I'm looking at the website and the station was started by Don Sherman former owner of KSJM 107.9 in Wichita, KS and Todd Reynolds who also worked on air at KSJM. Sherman later formed a partnership with The Carter Broadcast Group in Kansas City owners of KPRS in the ownership of KSJM at the time. I heard the station last night they have a pretty interesting mix, I hope the station works out for them. I also read on All Access that Todd Reynolds will be on air for mornings and Don Sherman on in afternoons.
