Grundig YB-P 2000

Does anyone here own one?

I got one on Saturday for $5.40, But I saw some reviews on it..Alot are not good, It works fine with me

Sure it's not good for DXing, But it get's the Job Done

http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/3008 No, it does not "get the job done". You paid 5.39 too much for it. Their performance is as good as Coby. I tried one of these out when new to shortwave listening. If you like radio but don't want to spend a lot of money like myself, stick to pawn shops and thrift stores where sometimes a gem may pop up. The YB is so bad, it may turn a person OFF of radio. If shortwave radio were a more popular hobby Grundig would have class action suits or lemon laws from all of the GARBAGE they have been putting out the past few years- this "yacht boy" and the Satellit 750- a 300. radio POS of which I unfortunately got one that came out of their "bad batch" and conveniently for them crapped out just over the year warranty, due to cheap parts that blew from static discharge on the external antenna jack. Sure I can fix it but most people can't and would cost a pro about what the radio is worth used. Stick to Eton not Grundigs, and the "new" Grundigs you get from Universal Radio are all refurbs as well. Don't get me started on Grundig! Too late...

Actually some of the latest "Grundigs" are made by the Eton company, the 750 is made by Tecsun, the 800, I don't know who makes it, I think it was based on the Drake SW8 receiver. I believe all the "Grundigs" are made in China. The real (big) Grundigs were used to be made in Germany, or Portugal...

Back in the day, Grundig made some fabulous radios, including some really great portables. I had a Yacht Boy 300PE, which may have been the best portable I ever owned. I got about 12-15 years of great service out of it, until one day it "disappeared" when my wife and sister-in-law were doing a major house cleaning project while I was out of town. I'm still hoping it turns up some day.

I replaced it with an Eton E-10, which came out right around the time the Eton and Grundig brands were "merging". I thought the E-10 would be similar to the 300PE. It looked vaguely similar, it was (and still is) a decent radio, but not as good good as the Yacht Boy.

I know the Eton-Grundig combo put out some good product for a while, but my understanding is that the brand(s) has(have) slipped.

Yes that's correct, I didn't get too deep into it as I wanted to keep my reply short! I wished I had gotten the Eton as opposed to my Grundig 750, apparently the Grundig badge doesn't have the same quality control that Tecsun/Eton do. Every Grundig I've purchased has had a gremlin- either the radio itself failing, or parts falling off, basic crap. Makes me mad that the darn thing was so expensive. I had reviewed the radio before hand and found it allright, but after I owned it a while and experienced problems others online also chimed in with similar issues.

I had the e10 as well. Good radio but I found one to beat it. The sangean pr-d9. It's not shortwave but it's still awesome. I think sangean is my new go to company for radios. It used to be grundig but I had the g8 and I was not overly impressed with it. It only lasted me a year. It front ended on me. Just like my g3 I had. I loved the g3. I had the pl-390 but hated the tuning on it. I almost got the pl-660 but glad I went the sangean rout. Turns out the 660 has that stupid .01 tuning on it. What a fail. Anyway, I heard of the radio mentioned in this topic and just laughed. It's too bad really.
