GSN Cancels "What's My Line?"

It looks as if What's My Line? is no longer being shown on GSN at 3am or 3:30.

GSN used to have a 2 hour block from 3-5am called "Late Night Black & White" for classic game shows... WML, I've Got A Secret, To Tell The Truth, etc. Then that was reduced to 3-4 am with infomercials starting an hour earlier at 4am two years ago.

Then a few months ago, it was further reduced to just WML at 3:30. Now "The Amazing Race" is airing at 3am and runs till 4am infomercial time.

GSN also aired other game shows in that 3am hour, including Beat The Clock and Password. Some of the shows dated from the earliest days of TV. Sometimes they'd air some shows that most of us have forgotten or were too young to remember such as "The Name's The Same" with Robert Q. Lewis or an early Bill Cullen game show where he mentioned that it was on both TV and radio at the same time.

It's a shame these shows may never be aired again. Luckily I saved a good number of these shows on videotape since I'm usually not up at 3am.

That's sad... WML is one of their few current Game Shows that GSN showed that I liked... the panelists were gay.

ONe of them hosts a radio show on Sirius OutQ (I htink).. so thats kinda cool too

Paul, I think you're confusing that with the new "I Got A Secret" - Frank DeCarlo(?) is on Sirius, I believe.

HAHA Yes Bill, you're right.. my mistake. My fault tho, Im usually doing twenty things at once lately.. so my brain gets confused lol

It still stinks if GSN gets rid of all their "classic" programming, black and white or not. Thank God they still play the old Match Game '7x as that's always great. I use to love the ol' B&W lineup - What's My Line, Password, I Got A Secret, To Tell The Truth - I don't remember if they ever played the old 60's version of the Match Game but I remember it from my childhood.

Would it kill these guys to play a couple of hours on the weekend instead of the garbage like "Amazing Race"?

What's My Line will return Sunday Night/Monday Morning Oct. 1/2 at 3:30 AM..airing once a week with other classic shows filling the 3AM spot..The last few weeks, they have shown

What's Going On?
Get The Message
ABC Color Password (1971 Daytime)
CBS Primetime Password (1967 Color)

This Sunday they will show

3AM Two For The Money
3:30 Winner Take All (1952-53)

These shows have been in the Sunday Night/Monday morning 3-4 AM slot while the Amazing Race took over the other nights at 3-4AM

Thanks for the update, Tim. Now that I'm in the middle of a house move the VCR/PVR are packed, but at least if I can manage to stay up that late I'll be able to get my fix of nostalgia.

That Bill Cullen show sounds like Winner Take All. The shows GSN has aired
are from 1952, but Uncle Bill was host of the radio show as far back as 1946.
There's an urban legend that original host Ward Wilson got drunk and failed
to show one day, and announcer Cullen was pressed into service to fill in--
and the rest is history. The 1946 version was identical to the 1952 one,
with two contestants trying to be the first to buzz in with the right answer
for one point (itself a first in 1946), with three points winning the game and the winner remaining on the show until defeated (another first for '46). When Winner Take All first went on television, in 1948, Bud Collyer was host and the format had contestants watching a skit, then being questioned about it (Mark Goodson once said he tried too hard to make that show "visual," with lots of models, dogs, etc.). Radio talk-show host Barry Gray emceed it in 1951, with the Collyer-era format. When Cullen took over in '52, as I said, it went back to its original format. I've seen a couple of the Cullen episodes, and was pleasantly surprised to see what a good interviewer he was. BTW, Cullen's 1952 version aired on NBC at 10:30 AM (ET).

All the regular panelists, as well as the moderator, are now deceased.
There is no indication any was gay (although apparently the spouse of one was).

The original quiote above was referring to a new version of "I've Got a Secret" that GSN produced this year. The original poster confused it with "Whar's My Line?" The New IGAS originally made a big deal of the panelists being Gay but later downplayed that fact.

UPDATE: GSN will show "The Name's The Same"_Likely with Robert Q. Lewis and "It's News To Me" a relatively obscure Goodson-Todman Show with John Charles Daly as Moderator/Emcee Next Monday Morning in the 3-4AM time slot..What's My Line returns the following week with another unnamed show filling the hour time slot
