GSO CC taking WCWG-TV In?

Heard yesterday at WCWG-TV may be moving from the Topless Carwash on Guilford College Road to the basement of Clear Channel's Greensboro facility?

Does anybody around here do Microwave Path Analysis anymore? I can see how they can get a TV microwave signal out of the hole at CC's offices. Not to mention the issue with the airport (ground radar screwing up satellites, path outages due to planes passing overhead, etc.)

I guess the folks that bankrupted Pappas are still in charge.

Hmm...the Topless Carwash...huh? Convertibles, Women, or the Car Wash has no roof? I'm not familiar with the area, so it's a serious question?

There is a 150 or 200 ft. STL tower at the CC building (formerly) the PAI building. Works for the 5-FM's.
The FCC requires an 8 Foot Solid Dish for TV in this market. I can't see a wire stick supporting an 8 foot dish.... Plus Radio STL operate on radio frequencies (900 mhz), it's fairly robust as to trees, rain, fog, curve of the earth. TV STL operates at 7 Ghz - line of sight is mandantory.

I-40 at Guilford College Rd.
The womens is topless while they wash your car I hurrd.
Some kind of drivethru setup, it was on the news a long time ago.
The car wash part also might have no roof, it looked pretty light in there on the videotape [head shots only, probably best that way].

The most important question: When do they get full-power digital?

I was having no problems with WCWG for the first month and then I had days with nothing at all or maybe a few seconds at a time, and other days with occasional pixilation, and then there was the day it pixilated every time a car went by.

WXLV gave me NO problems until that one day and I have been scared to take a chance again, and WMYV rarely gives me problems. WFMY never gave me a problem either. It just won't come in on Channel 2.

Who says anything about microwave from "studio" to transmission facilities?

Maybe they got a fiber link instead? Or even a satellite link? Who knows?

Before Digital TV that was not a problem. TV requires a 19.2 Mbs Data Service that's roughly 13 T-1 lines. Fortunately, if I recall CC is in the Northstate Service area, so is the WCWG transmitter site. So a TV Fiber is possible if they have the $$$ - last time I checked, it would run about $3K to $5K a month.

Satellite Link - may be if they became a CW Superstation (opps Not Possible - ask WGN Chicago). Otherwise you could be talking $20K a month transponder lease.

At least I can be blamed for saying it can't be done this time. The WCWG Engineering Masters are flatlanders - they know nothing of hills and valleys.

I tried WCWG on Sunday and it seemed fine, though I didn't stay long enough to know if the problems are over.

However, on my second converter box--NOTHING.

Even WMYV and WXLV do next to nothing. WFMY is fine. WCCB is fine. WGHP is non-existent but I sort of expected that.

Update: I can get it on channel 19, its REAL channel. I also hadn't read the directions for adjusting the antenna. It is not enough just to point the display toward the stations!

WGHP is back ... well, in the living room.

Update: The last time I tried WCWG in the living room I got "No Signal". Have they not yet fixed their problems?

Converter box no. 2 is up to 10 stations, thanks in part to an antenna with buttons you can push to turn it. I wonder if that would work for some of the stations in the living room? But WCWG never had one problem during the first several weeks after Feb. 21.

No, I can't watch in the other room. It's an ideal place for reception but there's no room to sit and get comfortable. It's a former back porch. If I moved the bed out ...
