GSP July ratings

  • WYRD falls, but remains 3rd
  • WROQ is almost approaching a 7 share, with WMYI right behind it.
  • WESC has slid to 6th place. When have they ever fallen out of the top 5?
  • Bad slide for WFBC but WHZT staged a comeback
  • WTPT is seriously starting to get some low ratings and isn’t coming out of the slump
  • 106.3’s slide seems to be slowing, but it’s ahead of 104.9.
  • The Fan has improved recently.
  • Streetz 99.5 is failing miserably.

As evidenced by the recent surge of adult oriented stations (WMYI and WROQ), the impact of the market not having an AC or classic hits outlet has pushed the classic rock and rock-leaning adult hits stations so high because there’s nowhere else for those listeners to go, with the multiple adult oriented stations the market has lost since last year.

93.3’s ratings are pathetic. They seem to be more on a long term decline than a wobble. They used to get around a 3-4 share. 104.9 is roadkill.

I think WYRD will have pretty good numbers through November. Then they'll slip back to the 5's or so.

And I'll never understand why Planet is still that format. I guess it sells well in combo with WROQ and WYRD? I'm guessing they are all white male numbers.

And it's scary that 94.5, a blowtorch 100kw signal, doesn't get any ratings in this book. Good thing they don't care about ratings.🙄

I may be wrong, but It doesn’t look like EMF is subscribing anymore. They normally don’t except in “new” markets or on occasion. WLTE and WLTS also aren’t listed.

Also - what has happened to WEPR? They’ve averaged around an upper 2-mid 3 share but they’ve had a rough couple of months.

Crazy thing about The Planet is The Block at its high end has had around the same numbers on the 3 translators. Also, I don’t recall Magic doing that poorly ever except for those first monthlies on 106.3 but when it signed off on 106.3 it went out with over a 3 share.

I wish SC eTV would flip WEPR to the talk feed from the classical feed. Honestly? They usually own more than one FM in each market, one for news and one for news/music. They should be able to sell almost half their stations, upgrade the ones they keep to HD and put both signals on one FM. I'm betting they would actually come out ahead money-wise. I'm sure there are some religious broadcasters that would be more than happy to pay for some big signals.

When was the last time WHZT was that high? I think that is one of the most surprising things I’ve seen in a while lol.

And where would people get their classical music?

Agree. The SCPR network is honestly a mess. The "flagship" signals that cover Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston (WEPR, WLTR, WSCI) all carry the news and classical feed, but Columbia also has WRJA that hits the market. Charleston has WSCI in HD (only SCPR station in HD) with news/talk on HD2 and it's also got WJWJ from Beaufort as a rimshot. The closest news and talk affiliate to GSP is WNSC in Rock Hill/Charlotte, which only really covers the eastern part of the market somewhat decently. IMO, if they have to pick one, GSP should get the news and talk feed since they don't have another signal in the area and I don't see them buying another signal or a non-comm selling. Upgrade it to HD and put classical on the HD2.

I'll be curious to see if WHZT is a fluke, that station has been on a downward trend for a while. Oddly WFBC had a hard fall at the same time, but there isn't much musical overlap between the two stations these days.

Audacy has been making a lot of format changes recently. I can't help but wonder if WTPT is long for this world. I noticed they let Twisted Todd, who had been there in PM drive for quite some time go a couple of months ago and replaced with an out of market voicetracker.
