Based on recent ratings and revenue numbers, Graves Radio WGST has just been been declared a non-profit entity. Operations Mangler Jerry Del Corpse hopes to achieve similar status for all the other stations in the Atlanta cluster in the not to distant future.

Since we are all anonymous here, do you care to speak freely regarding your obvious personal beef with WGST?

Yeah, I tend change channels much more frequently over the past three months than I have in the past. There are certain time slots that I simply do not listen to this radio station because the programming has changed for the worse.

However, you seem to have been affected by the recent Bloomie changes more personally than most negative WGST posters. Care to elaborate?

Funny how so many criticize, but very few come up with a way to make the statiom better, other than pull the plug all together (very creativive, BTW). If you were P.D. what would you do? I'll bet whatever it is, it still wouldn't stand a chance against WSB right now. A lot of people don't like The Kimmer, but then again, if you let him go, you lose probably the biggest basse they've got, besides Rush, and he's not going anywhere. Anyone you bring in against Boortz will get clobbered, that's just the way it is right now. People in ATL love him (not sure why, he's saying the same stuff now than when he was on GST. Did you know he was a pilot?) Tom Hughes, what do you do there? People are going to listen to Scott Slade no matter who you put in that slot. It's a no win situation righ now for WGST. I would really like them to succeed.

The reason pulling the plug is so popular, is well Clear Channel can't do anything else..

I don't see the station beating WSB and taking over. All I want is some competitiveness. I don't see that..

1. Send Tom Hughes off
Replace with Hullinger, Tom Houck and Dick Williams with Cliff Bostock for good measure.

2. Replace mid-morning person with Bruce Harvey's wife and the former lead female personality on CNN (the one that was a deputy for Fulton County)

3. Keep Rush

4. Give Kimmer a perm. vacation. Herman Cain or similar ilk, get some passions stirred

5. Nightlife with Royal Marshall, or put Royal Marshall in the afternoon.

Have it local, topical and bring back guys like Howard Gunter, Wade Medlock and other souls to go pound the street..

Or go 1010 WINS.. if anything give Wisbeey a little sweat..

Actually, many have.

>other than pull the plug all
> together (very creativive, BTW).<<

"Creativive!!" Ooh la-la! You have to admit that the idea of killing the call letters altogether, taking Rush and putting him on one of CC's FM's and building a talk station around him with all new talent, including a morning call-in talk show is actually pretty "creativive", and is WSB's worst nightmare. Too bad nobody there is smart enough to think of that.

>>If you were P.D. what would
> you do?<<<

See above.

>>>I'll bet whatever it is, it still wouldn't stand a
> chance against WSB right now. <<

Wrong. it would put a hole right through their 25-54's. 80% of Adults 25-54 never even tune in to the AM band. Think about that for a second and then ask yourself what a powerhouse FM Talker with Rush and key local talent would do in Atlanta.

>>A lot of people don't like The
> Kimmer,<<<

More and more every month. He's lost 75% of his audience year-to-year.

>>> but then again, if you let him go, you lose probably
> the biggest basse they've got, besides Rush, and he's not
> going anywhere.<<<

The only reason Kimmer still exists as WGST is REVENUE. His ratings are terrible, but he has a few key accounts that bring in dependable $$ year after year. That's the only reason he survives. Count the live reads in his show and you'll know what I'm talking about.

>>> Anyone you bring in against Boortz will get
> clobbered,<<<

Boortz is not invincible. WGST just gave up the fight about 10 years ago, that's all.

>>> People in ATL love him (not sure why, he's saying the same stuff now
> than when he was on GST. Did you know he was a pilot?)<<<<

But you just said above that he's unbeatable....then here that he's stale and repetitive. Which is it? Could it be that WGST has never offered anything in the last 10 years that could possibly be taken seriously as an alternative to Boortz, thereby conceding the fight before the bell even rings?

>>>Tom Hughes, what do you do there? <<<

"Grumpy" Hughes should have been put out to pasture 10 years ago.

>>>>People are going to listen to Scott Slade no matter who you put in that slot. <<<<

Yes, Scott is an amazing broadcaster and for a high-cume, high news and service-element show nobody does it better. But...what about Rush fans who want longform political call-in talk in the mornings? Slade doesn't offer it, and nobody in Atlanta does it. WGST should have figured that out about 10-12 years ago.

>>>It's a no win situation righ now for WGST.<<<

It's only that way because somebody somewhere gave up the fight. This is a station that 15 years ago was getting 5 and 6 shares. The truth is that there haven't been any "big thinkers" at WGST's helm in a long time...just order-takers carrying out the whims and idiotic ideas of someone who has absolutely no idea what he's doing, yet has been very adept at sheilding himself from the results of his own bad decisions for years and years.

>>> I would really like them to succeed.<<<

Whatever. Not going to happen unless some REAL changes are made, and I'm not just talking about firing PD after PD and producer after producer.

Didn't CC try "Real Radio" a couple of years ago? Failure, even if you put Rush on it. Why do that anyway when Rush is on 12-3, when 640 can be picked up with no problem. They also tried Punnett a few years ago in the A.M. doing a call in format...it bombed (PlanetRadio fiasco).

Problem is, they fire support players but keep a morning host with a fraction of a share, a mid morning host with less audience than they were getting with FREE syndicated programming and, as mentioned elesewhere, an afternoon show that is down 75%. Not to mention a Program Director who has never succeeded in any his previous jobs and a Senior V.P. who has destoyed every station in the building in less than five years.

"Real Radio" was a disaster for other reasons. And Punnett was never in morning drive.

PS We always read about the "PLANET RADIO FIASCO"....Here's a tidbit for you...WGST would have to almost triple their current AQH in order be where "Planet Radio" was in 1997. And you say we shouldn't be criticizing them. HA.
