GST

Mike Stiles back on filling in for Randy Cook and sounding really comfortable. They may have found their permanent pinch hitter.

When you're pinch hitting for a guy who's hitting .075 it's not that hard to sound comfortable... especially when there's nobody in the bleachers.

GST's problem is you cant pick up their signal before sunrise,by then SB has most of the listeners. The way things are going GST is counnting down the days until the Braves contract is over.

I disagree and the sunrise excuse can only take you so far. You act as if people tune into WSB and lock it in and never change the channel. When I tune in the radio on the way in these days the sun is already up so what's the difference to me and the million other people in the area who started their commute at 7:00 am and beyond today.

GST's has some limitations due to full power restrictions but they are full power for most of the day when it matters. They used to beat WSB with similar restrictions. Bottom line is the product is not good and does not connect with enough listeners. My unsderstanding is they could have grabbed Hannity before WSB did but did not. Had they grabbed him and moved the Kimmer back to a 9 - 12 slot. They would not be in their current position I believe.

Correct. The programming is the problem. Sunrise/Sunset is IMHO, a big problem during the winter months for GST, not so much in summer.

GST proably beat SB when Boortz was on there and the Kimmer, but when Boortz went to 750 WGST fell during the 9-noon and has never recovred. Kimmer didn't want to move to mornings.

Back in the early 90's the Braves were a hot comidty because they had just started winning after being horriable for so long but now they have been a finacially liabilty.

I thought Kimmer was a great talent along with the crew of Wayne "No Offense" and Pete "Snake" Davis. I wish someone would bring Kimmer back on the air. Does anyone have any idea of what he's doing now?

Kimmer is now retired,he spends his time in Massachuettts in the summer and Floridia in the winter, ridding his Harley and playing golf. Wayne is at True Oldies and Pete Davis I have no idea.

Last time I saw Pete, he was working in a book store in Buckhead. It would be good to hear him on the radio again.

So Wayne is in DC now?

Hold the phone!! You mean Clark Howard used to work at 640 WGST?!

Yes, Radio1360. Clark Howard was a travel agent who started working part time at WGST. He enjoyed the gig so much, he quit playing travel agent and eventually caught on full time.

And so did Boortz. Boortz was at WRNG (Ring Radio, ATL's first major talk station when talk wasn't cool, now 680 The Fan) before that.

Yup: Clark worked at WGST in the mid '80s...one hour a day. Eric Seidel offered me the time slot for consumer help first and I turned it down because I wanted to focus on our statewide news network. Besides I wasn't really wired to do consumer as much as business and marketing news. So Eric said, fine, he had someone who went to his synagogue who might work well.

Eric also pulled Sean Hannity out of obscurity from an FM rock station in Huntsville for $30,000 a year to replace Boortz.

When the time came for WSB to bring Clark in --- I'll never forget this --- he came into my office, closed the door and asked what advice I had to give him on what to ask for in his contract. He figured that, since I was at 11Alive, I might know of some tricks.

Needless to day, he didn't need whatever advice I gave him. He's a one of a kind class act. What you see is what you get.

Wayne is here in Atlanta at True Oldies 106.7. The last I heard Pete Davis and most other Clear Channel employees are no longer in the radio business.

Yes Boortz stared on Ring radio with Ron Sailor,Sr and Kath Fiscman who later went to WSB. Boortz also practiced law before he signed with WSB.
