Guess DePetro Just Can't Help It: "That Broad"

Brian Whittimore can only do so much with John DePetro it seems. DePetro had Mary Mapes on this morning who wrote a book in defense of her expose on George Bush's failure to complete his military air national guard service and the storm of controversy which followed when it was broadcast on CBS News with Dan Rather.

Won't make a judgment on a book I have not read but I have heard enough enough times this week to know Mary Mapes believes the total facts will and do prove her expose correct.

John DePetro didn't let his anti Rather - anti CBS and pro Bush feelings show while she was on but as soon as the phone interview ended DePetro reverted to form - hopeless form I am afraid.

DePetro reverted to cheap, sexist name calling saying "that Broad" is delusional.

DePetro has enough problems of his own without reverting to name calling. Guess my kudos below were at the very least premature.

In this absurd, politically correct world, it is refreshing to hear someone call it like it is, I agree with Depetro, Mary Mapes is a delusional broad.

I agree, unless someone can prove that Microsoft Word existed in the early 70s.
He called her a broad? I've heard worse on Air America, where Randi Rhodes
not once but twice called for the president to be assassinated. (But oh,
she was just kidding.)

Statement from CBS News: ""Mary Mapes' actions damaged CBS News as an organizational and brought pain to many colleagues with whom she worked. Her disregard for journalistic standards -- and for her colleagues -- comes through loud and clear in her interviews and in the book that attempts to rewrite the history of this complex and sad affair.

"As always, revisionist history must be tested against the facts. Not only are those facts contained in the extensive media coverage that took place at the time, but also in the 200-plus-page report of the independent panel which investigated the matter for more than three months.

"We believe those facts speak for themselves. The idea that a news organization would not need to authenticate such important source material is only one of the troubling and erroneous statement in her account."<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by raccoonradio on 11/11/05 04:26 PM.</FONT></P>

I agree with you, I too have heard worse and personally, I'm sick of this politically correct BS, people need to get in line for spine transplants, it seems for the last 10 -15 years people have not only lost their minds, but have forgotten what having a spine means, everyone is soooo touchy and sensitive, it's pathetic.Hell, right now I'm listening to comments made about Romney's reaction to the (BLEEP) comment made yesterday, Kennedy Kerry Klan, which I find amusing and not the least bit offensive, however, what I do find offensive is that someone actually called Kennedy and Kerry "devout catholics", bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, where is the outrage over that comment?????

Please keep it to radio

Hi gang.

The thread will remain, for the time being. But please keep to the discussion of radio.

Thanks for your help with this. <P ID="signature">______________

It demeans your argument to resort to ad hominem attacks. May make you feel good for the minute but it is worthless to the argument. If time proves Mary Mapes facts to be wrong then they are wrong. I will have to read her book first to balance the blogs which were all politically directed during the presidential campaign.

I put DePetro behavior in the same category as the hooters, booers and hollerers who filled the Convention Center last Saturday during WTKK's Talk promotion. Put that stuff where it belongs in the World Federation of Wrestling it is killing talk radio and making it from my viewpoint boring and a dial turner.

I think John DePetro can do better.

Mapes and Rather belong in prison!!!!
Depetro`s show is 'EGDEEE' deal with it.

If you don't like what Depetro and the rest of talk radio has to say then perhaps you should listen to music FM radio, then again, some of what they say isn't all that prim and proper either!

Think About What You are Writing.

Remember "Edges" can cut both ways. Your beliefs maybe next to get slashed.

"Jail" ??????????? Last I read they have NOT repealed the First Amendment. If they had none of us could express our divergent views here.

Civil discourse still has its place on talk radio that is all I am saying. If your argument is strong enough you don't need to call people names to make your point. That goes for both major parties as well.

WWF indeed!

And much of the audience is just as gullable!

Before you start screaming "she and Rather belong in jail for trying to overthrow a president", take a few moments to read the excerpt of Mapes' book in the current issue of Vanity Fair. Note the reproduction of the UNDISPUTED
George Bush Air Reserve resignation letter on page 305, and the weak excuse that he wrote ("Inadequate time to finish commitments").

If just one bad doc out of several genuine was in question, it is a shame that the whole case against this man's questionable service record was thrown out.

Read the excerpt. I know that some people seem to think that Rather and company just sat in a room rubbing their hands chanting "let's just make up something and take this guy down", but the real story is--like real life--more nuanced and involved.

Unlike most AM talk radio, let's hear BOTH sides, get the WHOLE picture, and make our our minds on FACTS, instead of cynically throwing red meat to a riled-up mob to generate ratings and sell books.

Re: Think About What You are Writing.

C'mon people. Radio talk shows aren't violating anyone's civil rights. One has to be in a position of power to do that. It's TALK RADIO for heaven's sake.

If Air America can get away with pure fabrication, innuendo and such, surely the conservative side of talk radio can have it's say.

People are entitled to their opinions. I understand how people feel about their politics but dammit guys, I said keep it to radio. So QUIT now. You guys aren't even talking about a station anymore. Thread closed.
