Hamp,
I have tried finding that out back when it happened and it seems like anyone who does know is quiet on the subject.
The only thing I can speculate is that Julian was in a disagreement with management about his role. Remember not too long before this happened he lost his weeknight 6-10 shift. Maybe that also had a hand in the matter.
So Julian goes to Kiss. Starts the supermix six which many of the current B 96 mixers were apart of. I think it was Julian, DJ Nonstop, Billie the Kid, Double Impact, and a couple more (I think Josh the Funky 1 and maybe DJ Flipside?)
Why Julian left after barely 6 months I don't know either. I asked about that at the time and people were real quiet on the matter. I remember there was a ton of audio problems while he was there and after he hosted the first part of the show. One mix would start to air, it would abruptly stop. Dead air. Then the mix that just aired would air again, etc. Also they would promote mixes 10p-6a and a mix would abruptly stop and then just regular music would play at like 3 or 4 in the morning with no more mixes for the rest of the night. That could have been part of it. It sounded really bedroom DJish on the air.
The most interesting thing I remember from this brief mix show war was how B 96 let go of Bobby D., To Kool Chris, DJ Markski, and Maurice Joshua almost out of the blue with no knowledge to the listeners other than a promo for an all new Street Mix.
They keep Mixin Marc, DJ Speed and DJ Dan Morrell and keep Brian Middleton and Tim Spinnin Schommer on as air talent only. Julian comes back with many of the mixers currently on the station today and he gets added as mix show coordinator duties.
It was hilarious how Kiss was airing a previously aired Julian mix at the same time as B 96 was airing a new Julian mix. I will never forget that moment.
Ironically it all started around this time in 2003/2004 I believe.
If anyone knows the real story, please chime in. I would like to know myself.
