Guess you can't have your cake and eat it too!

Kudos to Mike Kaplan for turning 107.7 The End's Resurrection Flashback Sunday into an entire day. Might be in the minority here, but the station sounds 10 times better today than it does throughout the rest of the week.

However what is missing is someone like a Jim Keller to take us on a trip down memory lane, share some facts about the music that the casual listener might not know, as well as updates as to what the bands are up to nowadays. For example, I heard Cranberries "Zombie" a few minutes ago and although I read about it last week, Seattle area fans of theirs might like to know that they are reuniting and heading out on tour. Really can't accomplish any of that by saving a few bucks and running jockless.

You're not alone! I agree that having a full day of Flashback Sunday is a great thing. I probably listened more to The End than any other station that day. Icing on the cake would be to include more post-punk, new wave, ska and other 80's alternative like Keller's show did. I can live with a 90's emphasis, but would it hurt to include the likes of The Clash, Devo, X, English Beat, Oingo Boingo, Hüsker Dü, Gary Numan, David Bowie, The Ramones...? There are plenty of influences on today's alt from those bands.

During the week, one has to hop from lilly pad to lilly pad -- between The End, Jack, The Mountain (and C-89 on Thursday mornings) -- to get enough older stuff. Either that, or stream KROQ2 from LA.

As for a host... That is a double-edged sword. You really need someone that actually knows and/or appreciates music to host the show -- someone like a Jim Keller or Bill Reid. You CANNOT stick in a newbie or lightweight just to announce song titles and laugh at their own jokes. A Jordin Silver might work, but based on what I've heard so far, Pounder or Red would do more harm than good. Better to go host-less than damage the show. I wonder how much it would cost to have a retired Steve Rabow voicetrack a show from Florida?

All suggestions aside, I'd rather have it exactly as-is than not have it at all. Good job, KNDD!

Re: the music

I probably do tend to listen more on Sunday as well. I'll listen to some of the End's shiny pop but the play list is so small and repetitive. In the last few months has much new been added to the rotation? For those more knowledge about what is out there and broadly popular or potentially broadly popular what would you recommend as adds?
