Guest Sports Reporter On KCBS...

Filling in with the sports updates this afternoon (Dec. 29) on KCBS/740 is none other than Kevin The Rat, working under his real name, Kevin Radich.

He left KHTK/1140 in Sacramento a few weeks ago, where he had been part of the Rise Guys morning show. His place on that show was taken by former KNBR fill-in dude F.P. Santangelo.

Kevin's wife is KCBS morning traffic anchor Kim Wonderley. He broke into radio after winning an on-air audition at the old KRQR/97.3 in San Francisco.

And in other sports-reporter news: KGO hires Larry Kreuger!

BTW, since I never listen to KCBS, I had no idea Kim Wonderley was doing traffic there... I still remember the day she mysteriously disapppeared from the KFOG Morning Show.

I listen to KGO all the time and think Krueger is a good fit. It's a shame that Joe Starky had to resign because he wanted to stay with the (sorry) niners, it was a big loss to KGO. Still, I think Krueger is a good replacement and will do fine. And for what it's worth, I think he got a totally bum rap at KNBR; if they would have just simply looked at what he said in it's context maybe the political-correctness police would have let him off with a warning.

Since KCBS is going with 'The Rat' now, I wonder if there's something brewing regarding a change in KCBS' sports anchors as well. We know that since the passing of the great Bill King the A's need another play-by-play guy to compliment Ken Korach, and Steve Bitker had filled in quite a bit for Bill King this last season. Maybe Steve is going to be the new A's play-by-play guy??

First off, Kevin the Rat broke in on the KFOG morning show with M.Dung and Scoop Nisker...then found his way to KRQR.

Krueger may be a decent fit for KGO but I think the talk show format is more his "thing". Kevin the Rat runs circles around him in my opinion for sports reporting. Just the writing, commentary and delivery all being top drawer. KCBS is lucky to have him and I should think he'll turn up full time somewhere soon.

Another name to toss into this stew: Ted Robinson, who filled in on KNBR for Gary Radnich and (yesterday) on the "Razor & Mr. T" show over the holidays -- rather than spending the time with his family back in New York, which is the reason he gave for departing for the East Coast when he left the Giants.

Ted sounded really terrific in the short stretches that I heard him. If this wasn't an on-air audition, I don't know what is...

You are absolutely correct. Chalk that one up to a massive brain f*rt.

He started at KFOG in June 1985 and didn't go to KRQR until several years later. That's what I get for trusting my leaky memory.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Re: Guest Sports Reporters...

I can't say this for sure but I don't know for a fact that Robinson's immediate family is in New York. He does Stanford Football PBP and makes his home he said in the Bay Area during the baseball off-season.

When he left for the Mets a few years back, it was more to fulfill his dream of broadcasting for the team he grew up idolizing.
