I currently work at a station that doesn't have air-check meetings so guidance doesn't exist. My two previous stations did have critique meetings which I looked forward to because I felt like I was always growing as well as gaining confidence and understanding of what sound was looked for. Now that I'm applying for jobs I feel lost putting together a resume mp3. Suggestions? Does anyone know of consultants/agents that are worth attempting to get representation?

Not many of them do anymore. PD's are much too busy dealing with higher management and doing their own show. Back in the day when a lot of PD's were not one air on a regular basis, there was more time for this stuff. I really wouldn't expect this to happen at your place of employement.

When I was younger, I made a buddy at a major league radio station where I thought I wanted to work years down the road. I called one of the morning co-hosts. I explained that I wasn't looking for a job, I was looking to get better and appreciated some input. I heard a lot of things I didn't want to hear, but eventually it all worked out.

His expertise, as well as the over bearing program director I had at the time really taught me some discipline and worked well for me. That PD is in a great place and his teachings live on through me, as do that of my "mentor" who has had a really successful run on a couple of highly rated morning shows. He is on a big one in a big time market still.

The advice from TowerClimber seems reasonable. And by the way, be confident. As long as you had somebody to give you critique and guidance early on, and it was good advice, there is no reason to be anything but.

When all else fails, create your own? With networking and cold calling for advertisers? The sky doesn't have to be the limit.
