After spending some time in DC recently doing the morning show on WTTG Fox5 is returning to Fox5 here to co-host Good Day Atlanta once again.

When I saw the Newsblues headline, she was the first person who came to mind. I think it's a GREAT move! I grew up watching Amanda Davis and Gurvir Dhindsa on Good Day Atlanta. It was a part of my morning routine in middle and high school. I think Gurvir is great. I hope she hasn't (and doesn't) change! If I were still living in Atlanta, I'd make Good Day Atlanta a regular part of my mornings again. I haven't watched since the Marc Bailey/Janette Smith days.

What is it about Atlanta TV & personalities with names that are either too hard to pronounce or are just too "ethnic"? This flies in the face of common sense!

If that is their legal name then they should be able to use it. It's not like Atlanta is some medium-sized Southern market anymore where non-whites will water down their name to appease a certain group of people whom aren't used to "ethnics". It's one of the nation's top 10 largest DMAs. Diversity and ethnic names will show up in Atlanta, whether you like it or not...
What I like is irrelevant. What (should) matter to broadcasters is their ability to reach the public through, amongst other things, proper branding. I'm sorry, having someone with a difficult to pronounce name is not the way to go!

That might fly in the Upstate of South Carolina, but apparently not in Atlanta.

There are plenty of popular local anchors around the country who have unique names (Adele Arakawa, KUSA and Demetria Kalodimos - WSMV just to name a couple. Hell, add Suchita Vadlamani to the list, too). As long as these folks do their jobs well, then audiences will connect with them. In the long run, I think their unique names go a long ways in giving these folks greater recognition and exposure. I know when I mentioned to my folks that Gurvir was coming back to Atlanta, they knew exactly who I was talking about (and my folks are not news people).
Gurvir was quite popular during her first stint here, and I don't see any reason why she won't do as well when she returns.
^ Not to discount either of the two posts above, but it's marketing 101: No one buys what they can't see, feel, taste, etc....and pronounce. I'm sure Gurvir is a fine broadcaster, but if I'm not a local & I relocate here, my dial isn't gonna stay on something that's perceived to be odd, different or not familiar. That's all.

For all those who have not been around Atlanta for years (as many seem to be now), Gurvir and Paul were the new pairing on Good Day Atlanta back in the mid to late 90's. I remember commercial spots basically telling how to pronounce her name to people.
She is very talented and I think will bring some credit back over to Fox5. She is also a good connection back to the WAGA TV days.

I like Guvir, she has a more professional touch that GDA was missing with Suchita. Suchita has BIG stars in her eyes that FOX5 cannot deliver for her. May Suchita have a blessed success in her future endeavors. Welcome back Guvir, you are very well suited for GDA!!!
That would be a good fit considering FOX5 needs the shot in the arm where ever they can get it

I remember last year that Mark Hayes said that he was not going to renew his contract in the spring. I assume that he was renewed, but if he still has to do such (hmm) Paul Ossman would be a great replacement.
As for Guvir leaving years ago, I recall she left to get more experience and left on wonderful terms. I believe that Guvir only improved herself, if needed in the beginning. Guvir seems to be more in tuned to reality and not a spoiled image. Thank you Gurvir for bringing back the real world with real news to GDA in a proper manner!!!

The standard Atlanta no-compete clause is 6 months. You can in some cases work in the new TV station office but you can not put your likeness on any form of marketing on or off the air during that time. You may not appear on camera during that time. Johnny Beckman successfully sued WSB in 1982 because they didn't want him reporting to work at WXIA until his full 6 months was up. Thankfully, the courts ruled in Johnny's favor and WSB lost their end of the suit.

Thanks MR., I did not know and comprehend the tidbit as very interesting. I am sure Paul could be utilized somewhere at FOX. I know from reading that Mark Hayes is not liked by many viewers, I seen no problems with him. Nevertheless, I was not impressed when he stated that he would not resign his contract in the spring. I would not give him another year if I were WAGA for blathering such on the airwaves.
