While others are enjoying dissecting the mostly forgettable programming on 97.1, I've been interested in what KNX 1070's audience was going to look like after the return to AM. While I can only see the 6+ numbers, it gives us some idea of how much of the audience migrated from 97.1 to 1070. Prior to the Palisades and Eaton fires, KNX's weekly 6+ cume was a little under 1 million. I think they won fans with their good coverage of a huge story and cume since then has ticked up to 1.1 - 1.2 million, roughly to what I would commonly see 12 years ago. That cume fell to 819,800 in the 4/30-5/27 survey period, which included 9 days of no FM simulcast and news of the end of CBS Radio News. Now, we can finally see the 5/28-6/24 period and the 6+ cume has fallen to 653,000! I don't know when KNX's cume was that low. I didn't know what to expect. Obviously it was impossible to expect all FM listeners would move to AM. What was a reasonable percentage? Without the demos, I can only guess that the remaining audience is made up of the older listeners, many of whom may not have left 1070. But losing 40% of your historic 6+ cume is a tough challenge for KNX, I wish them luck.
