Guy Manilla (sp?)

Some years ago...thirty or so....Guy Manilla was, first, a newsman; then a sports announcer at WBZ, I believe. Anyone remember him and have any idea what ever happened to him?

Calling All Sports! I was one of those pesky kid callers who always wanted to talk about wrestling or propose one-sided trades for the Red Sox, and Guy would patiently let me have my say. He came across as a good guy with a dry sense of humor. I believe he died some years back.

I don't remember any news background?

* He had the first highly successful daily sports-talk show, when the Bruins were stunningly popular and hs star Robbie Ftorek was a legend in his own time.

* Was teased by Wil McDonough as having little interest in sports and never attending events.

* In a highly controversial move 'BZ had him succeed "The Dean" JW, and named the show "The World of Guy Mainella."

* Came from Wis., lived in NH at the time, likely still there?

I still remember the opening for his sport show.
A really sexy gal reading the phone number

"25-45-678

and now here's GUY"

I was a teen and that was HOT

remember the opening
The opening was sampled from Spector's River Deep,Mtn.high. I believe the female who did the voiceover also did beach reports as Lauralei? but I don't know her name?

I'm pretty sure he is still living in Nashua, NH. His wife used to make candy in her home and my sister-in-law worked for her until they closed the shop a couple of years ago. They made the best toffee I ever tasted. I would have heard if he had died.

wow, I wandered over here on a long, long overdue trip to ask about Guy Mainella, the first out of town sports show host I listened to regularly from my childhood home, Philly. Some good memories. I hope that when he got out of the business, it was on his terms. You would think an old schooler like Guy might have problems with the nature of 2 way sports talk that is, but if he were still doing it in Boston, it'd be a marvelous time to do so. Really liked Calling All Sports.

Hope to see you guys in the World Series this year. You have a wonderful sports town, and thanks for bringing up, and detailing the Mainella story.
