Gwen Foster & Jeff West Are Out At KMLE.....

Lon Helton's Country Aircheck is reporting tonight that KMLE midday personality Gwen Foster and PM driver Jeff West are no longer with the station due to 'budget cuts'.

This really sucks--I love listening to female radio personalities, especially at country stations, and Ms. Foster ranks with WIVK/Knoxville's Colleen Adair (who's also the MD) as two of the very best and most refreshing air personalities that I listen to as much as possible.

I sincerely hope that they're both back on the air real soon.

What a shame. I hate to see two more talented, good people go. Met Gwen and (very briefly) Jeff a few months ago in the building. And of course, I've listened to Jeff doing the overnights on KOOL most recently (in addition to his PMD spot on KMLE). I certainly wish them both the best.

Gwen and Jeff have been removed from the KMLE website's jock page. <sad>
All that I can find left that's live 'n' local is the morning show.

What's next for the @#$% bean counters at C(BS) corporate?

As of 10:12 PM PT, no changes on the KOOL-FM website--still showing
Tom & Maria, the Stevemeister, and Lee (and we hope Katfish with a
"K" too).

How disappointing. I really enjoyed listening to Gwen and Jeff.

With the continued budget cuts and axing of good people like Gwen and Jeff, I no longer miss being in radio.

Best wishes to you both. You will be missed on Phoenix airwaves.

Very sad news. I worked with Gwen in the KNIX kingdom in the glory years..solid personality and MD. Never met Jeff, but two more good ones gone.

Is this the future of radio? I'm thinking we need to get used to doing more with less.
Unless the tide turns, when contracts come up next year, there will be a bloodbath.
Citadel, CC, CBS all come to mind. They are going to have to make more cuts.
Indeed a sad day for Gwen and Jeff, and an indication of what's to come.

I used to cling to the hope that radio would be able to win the war against the iPod/iPhone and other portable music devices. Not anymore.

Listening to radio used to be fun for me. I enjoy listening to good on-air talent (Goddard, Foster, West, Pratt, etc.) and the interaction with the audience, traffic reports, etc. Anymore, I'm either listening to music via Pandora or songs on my iPhone. I pull up Google maps when I need to know if the freeway is backed-up.

What the hell? Is KMLE just going jockless after the morning show, or are they bringing in new (cheaper) talent?

Middays will be voicetracked and cheaper talent for afternoons.

Well, now it is very clear why Pratt was replaced huh? Tim and Willy are much cheaper. It’s all about budget crunching and bean counting.

Well if it's all about budget crunching and bean counting, then why get rid of two talents who are even cheaper than Tim and Willy?

I mean, even at a reduced rate, either Tim or Willy's salary probably eclipses the combined paycheck of Gwen and Jeff, so why not keep the cheap mid-day and afternoon talent and jettison the high-priced morning guys?

If it's really just a money thing, then why does the morning show get to keep their six figure salaries?

Remember this:

Given time mornings also will be VT'd with one producer/board op to put it all in the computer.
He'll be paid at less than $9.00/hour no benies.

Just watch...

Weird? no...it's STUPID. More dumbass management moves. It never ends. I'm so glad i'm just an advisor now.
