Hagerstown Radio

What's happening in Hub City radio? Is anyone other than WJEJ actually doing radio in Hagerstown anymore?

WHAG & WQCM and its replacement on 96.7 ("Wild"?) are run out of Chambersburg, aren't they? And doesn't the old WYII/95.9 ("Cool") come out of Martinsburg? And there's no human beings involved on any of them. Complete automation.

104.7 got snatched by Waynesboro/Greencastle and isn't 1490/WARK run out of Frederick? Their FM (106.9) is, for sure.

It's funny (or sad). Now that H-town is finally growing, the only station doing local radio is aimed at 80-year olds.

Or am I mis-reading the situation?

no you're right. from what little i know about that market, WJEJ sounds like the only 'real' radio station. they still doing beautiful music? now that's a rare bird of a format.

What was WYII 95.9 ( well actually WICL, 95.9 hasn't been WYII for several years now ) does indeed come out of Martinsburg though their city of license is still Williampsort. Still oldies but there is a rumor they may not be doing the oldies for very long. Word is that sometime within the next six months Martinsburg's Sports talker WEPM-AM may be moving to 95.9. 95.9 already airs the Hagerstown Suns and WVU games, might as well. Now whether they will focus on Martinsburg or Hagerstown remains a good question.

95.9 was pretty much live until about 2 years ago. But thanks to a poor signal, low ratings ( mainly because of that poor signal ) and a rather strange incident involving one ( I heard two ) of their employees, 95.9 picked up Scott Shannon's True Oldies feed and WICL pretty much became automated with the exception of Sunday nights. However with DC's WJZW 105.9 picking up the same feed I ( and they can be heard in Hagerstown very well ) I can't help but imagine that has really hurt WICL.

No, no it's not. And neither is 1490 WARK. Both are programmed and operated in Hagerstown. Additionally, it's sister station KEY 103 is programmed and operated in Frederick. The sales team in both locations sells all 3 stations combo as well as individually based on the needs of the advertiser.

Could've fooled me. On the air Eagle sounds all about Frederick, though it's so corporate/consultant-generic it could be run from anywhere. And, hey, Frederick is where all the money is anyway, so who can blame them. Nassau didn't pay $20 million (or whatever it was) to sell $15 spots in Hancock.

1490 is all network stuff 24/7/365, isn't it?

There is no "Hagerstown Radio," unless you count WJEJ. (My grandmother listens to WJEJ--she's 87. Nice lady, but she won't be buying any Toyotas or living room suites anytime soon).
