Hal Comello

Sad. Being from the Coast I never heard of him but he seemed to have built a loyalty inJackson County. I like it how someone can build someone up for an intro, yet not attract undue attention to themselves.

Around 1962, Comello was at WAAY in Huntsville; believe he came to Jackson County with the debut of WACY-1460, which was put on the air by Cliff Hunter, who had also worked at WAAY. He spent some time with WKFK LPTV 7 in recent years.

He is from here. Hal actually went to WAAY after working at WPMP 1956 - 1962. He has been at WGUD TV much longer than WKFK. Thanks for the call letters on 1460. We were trying to remember the old calls. I knew it was WGUD-AM for a while before it signed off in 1994

1460 eventually became WCIS, among other calls. A blistering 500W.

I worked with Hal in (I think) 1979 & 1980. For those who knew him, I will say the following with the greatest respect:

"Whoop-Whoop."

A select group will get the reference.

DE

DE....remember the "whoop-whoop" very well. Also remember "hey bud" and "fatback".....both of which bring a smile.

Hal was always quick with a smile, joke or a kind word. One of the truly nice guys. I am better for having known him.

Those of you who are his former co-workers, we are running a 24 hour tribute to him tomorrow. We are breaking away at 7:15 ish AM, noon and 5:00 PM for all former co-workers and listeners to phone in and remember Hal. The phone in number is (228)-762-3002. You can listen online all day tomorrow (Wednesday) at talkradio1580.com. Please feel free to call in and mention your memories of him!
