Half of Tan Talk sold

Saw this a day or two ago, but Lola has sold WZHR 1400 and the old third station in the "network", WDCF 1350 for $1 mil to a religious outfit.

Looks like with only 1340 left, WHNZ will have things wrapped up. Like they didn't before.

This "Chris Jones' guy..whatever show he had..or didnt have...rarely ..if ever made it on to either WZHR or WDCF, and certainly not in the last six month. WDCF has been all Spanish and WZHR has been gospel since the spring of 06...and even when WTAN stated they were part of this "network"...the majority of the programming was heard only on WTAN.

Waggy Boy(Dave) is quite the interesting character and a very unstable person in many ways. I won't reveal in public, but I've heard things so bad about him that it makes me shudder.

I hear this sale won't close or go over too easily for several reasons.

I was aware that WDCF had been Spanish for some time. Yes, WTAN didn't completely simulcast on 1400 but they did to some degree, and advertise to potential shows that way. Speaking of Dave, his wife isn't exactly a peach, either.

Years ago, when I was Ops Mgr of WDCF, the owners started phasing-in a Mexican-Tejano format, which proved more successful than the previous country format. Interesting to see a Spanish format has proliferated on 1350. The old WPAS was purchased by WDCF during my tenure and I was in fact the one, who chose the WZHR calls. I would have thought the Adult Standards format (which was very popular at the time) could have survived, interesting to see 1400 is now religious.

Back when I was Ops Mgr, both stations were providing almost all local programming and even local news (Pasco 20/20 News I think it was called) and even had a 24-hour weather line which was updated all the time. Are 1350 and 1400 managed by East Pasco interests, i.e. are they operated as local stations?

What does this mean for the all nude show, The Fitness Buff? Pete Williams and a hot chick broadcast in the buff everyweek from a nudist colony in Pasco County. Will a religious group let Pete And Sabrini take their clothes off once a week? Do you listen or care if the hosts are wearing clothes on a radio show? Would 1010 or 1470 pick them up?
B

The guy who runs the LPFM in Zephyhills, Dr Doctor Thayer is a nudist as well.

The Chris Jones Sports Talk show on WTAN was garbage. The idiot did his show on his home phone. To make matters worse, the show only consisted of about 5 to 10 minutes of sports talk and the rest of the show was devoted to a local mortgage broker or realtor. In one word ...rotten garbage :(

The show had to be done on the phone. If Jones were to actually appear in studio it would to easy for him to be served with summonses or even arrested. Despite the numerous legal preceedings against him and several tv investigative reports highlighting his shenanigans, Dave and Lola would take his money to the bank every week.

Dear Mr/Ms bsce96: Did they just thaw you out after a few years in hibernation, or did the mother ship just drop you off?? Its 2009- Welcome back! ;D Three posts from 2005, 2006, and 2007 threads in one day, wow.

Just to bring you up to date: Dave and Lola still own WTAN, WDCF (still simulcasting TAN most of the time), and WZHR which is LMA'ed (probably with option to buy) doing that good ole time religion by the "Bishop" Jefferson from Tampa. (Google Bishop Jefferson + Tampa and you will know why I put " " around bishop).
