Hall buys W283BW New London for WICH

How do you buy a translator that isn't for sale? With $200,000.

The 104.5 antenna will be moved to the WCTY tower off Route 32 and will be the new FM home of WICH 1310.

In other Hall news, Kaiser is out at Roxy and headed to the production director gig up at WAAF, and it sounds like Glenn O'Brien has been brought in.

WICH on an FM translator might fill the hole left by the disappearance of Kool.

Where did Glenn O'Brien used to work?

I recall hearing the name.

Did he used to work @'YZ?
I can tell I've left an unforgettable impression in your radio memory! ::) I worked at WWYZ going back to their mellow Natural 92 days in 1978 up thru 1983.

Notable radio stops include WLAD/WDAQ Danbury before WRCH and WDRC in Hartford, then WBMW/New London and most recently at WMOS/Stonington (The Wolf) 12/10-2/13... plus more part-time than even I can remember. I could write a book on it all, but no.

It would be great to hear the Stu Briar show on FM. (I wish they streamed his show live)

The rest of the days its the greatest hits of your life, rest home time music.

I wonder how listeners will react to hearing Stu's voice on FM for the first time? LOL

I've been in that facility several times.. in fact, I once had the honor of sitting in with a friend who was filling in for Stu..... that was an honor to a radio geek like me.

Stu could have made it big nationally, but he decided he wanted to remain at home where he got his roots.

Nice guy. When I was growing up he almost purchased our house in Jewett City. And was a good friend to our family over the years. (The Greczkowski Family)

I can't pick up WICH up here, but I do listed to his Podcasts of his show from time to time...

Still hoping to hear one of those classic Gorin's Furniture ads on his show... and man I would love to hear some of Stews "Pop Shop" shows. I grew up listening to WICH, and for may years my default password to many websites was 8895252, which is the studio line number for WICH. :D

I remember 889 5252 well.

I could hear the station just fine in Colchester by day when I went to high school there.. but there was not a peep from them at night because of their directional pattern.

So what happened with this? I still see the FCC data base says this station is still located in New London, CT. http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?call=W283BW

Did things change? If not, what's taking so long to bring the transmitter on line with WICH programming?

It also says it's still owned by and licensed to REVIVAL CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES, INC.

The deal died back in January, the sale is off. I don't know if it's related, but John Fuller put up a big stink about moving the transmitter, claiming it would cause 2nd adjacent interference to his WMRQ... right. That was more about him not wanting another FM competitor in the New London area.

The FCC never granted his petitions to deny the move, but if he could prove interference once the translator was on, they'd have to shut down and move. My guess is that for $200,000, that was a big gamble.
