Hall layoffs?

Rumors are running rampant at Joy Drive and "on the waterfront" that the Hall cluster is going to have some "employee adjustments" after the first of the year with the biggest hits coming from the Wizard/buzz duo. No surprise there because they are hardly the fair-haired golden child. All this due to the economic softness in the radio market.

Awful. Why buy a radio station just to run it into the ground? Why buy heritage rock stations when your company knows nothing about the format?

WIZN has become the weakest of Burlington's "Elite Eight.*" This won't help.

*A term I've coined to refer to the eight heritage commercial FM stations in B-P: Star, Triple X, WOKO, Buzz, Champ, Point, Kool, and Wizard.

Bad Luck And Bad Year In Store For Burlington Hall?

Yes, in the Hall's of Joy Drive this Holiday Season an errie feeling and it isn't reindeer and santa elf's on the roof...it's Hall corporate demanding a higher return from the Burlington properties. According to a source close at hand...possible layoffs and downsizing are in the works in programming, management and sales to ring in 2009. Remember, Hall paid over 17 million for the Buzz and The Wizard. Talk about bad luck, Howard Stern the only reason for The Wizard's revenue went to Sirus Satelite a month after the Hall closing...The Hall folks aren't too lucky with the new folks that came with the Buzz and Wizard...the resent being sold off like cattle, resulting in DJ's that don't care and salespeople that hang out at their house, because their budgets are unattainable. The folks are VOX are gearing up with a special plan to hit Hall too, Ken and his street sales hit team are offering special bonuses to whoo clients using the Hall group. It will be interesting to see how this unravels.

Wow. CBS just sold 3 FMs in Denver for 19.5 million...

I am saddened to hear that some of my broadcasting brothers and sisters may be laid off…. I am also a little miffed about the insensitivity of speculating on layoffs in a particular shop around the holidays… Jeez the timing of this speculation just plain sucks.

Believe me… I know what I am talking about when I say… Getting kicked to the curb hurts.... and so does worrying about losing your job around the holidays. For some this speculation may be interesting fodder or TMZ style “dishing” …But these are human beings (who work hard for not a lot of money) with families and homes we are talking about.

If any radio stations have sunk into irrelevance it’s not the fault of the staff…. It’s the fault of the management; who have the privilege of choosing the condemned while they continue to draw a sizable salary for being ineffective leaders and bad broadcasters.

Good luck everybody… I wish for you… What I wish for myself… I hope we all find our way.

God bless, and don’t let it all get in the way of having a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year,
