HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

So did any of the board regulars go? Any networking? Rumors? Or is the general consensus that anything interesting in the market has already happened and now it's all doom-and-gloom?

GREAT event

Biggest laffs came from the oldest inductees: 88-year-old George Patrick Duffy and 91-year-old DON PARDO, who seemed to make news, suggesting that this weekend's "Saturday Night Live" season finale will be HIS finale with the show. Pardo, who started in radio at WJAR/Providence, lives in Arizona, and flies to New York 20 times a year to intro SNL.

CONGRATULATIONS to all attendees, and APPLAUSE to the RIRHOF committee for a warm, well-attended event.

Do any currently employed on-air people in Providence show up? Someone mentioned last year that there was a lack of actual air personalities. Sounds like a good event to attend for the ceremony itself but with the market's condition anyone showing up to network is the equivalent of Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Not being negative but the ones who have been around long enough are the ones who have seen the best days of Providence radio.

There were plenty of current on-air folks in attendance, and from affected buildings, too. This is a celebration of the industry, and of the craft we all love. Can't do much about the current climate, but we can remember and recognize the greatness that has passed through this era.

Holland, thanks for taking part in presenting Jimmy Gray and joining us. Undoubtedly at some point, you'll be up there on the podium, accepting for yourself. I know there were some others who frequent this board who were also there, and to you - I also say "thank you" for your support.

I will look forward to your feedback, and I'll be glad to take suggestions. In the meantime, visit the hall website at www.rirhof.org to see for yourself. Get involved - contribute - become an Associate Member, and we'll see you next year, if not sooner!

I figured I'd go in posthumously...just not soon, I hope!

List off the top of my head-Gio, Will, Kim, Davey, Jessica, Tony Bristol, John Depetro, Buddy Cianci, Ron St. Pierre, Dan Yorke, Paul Fuller, Gary Degraide....also in attendance Charlie Jefferds, Arlene Violet, Gene Degraide, Mitch Dolan, Tom Cuddy, Chris Tyler, John Bina (and looking good after being sick for 4 months), Jim Halfyard, John Rooke, John Colletto, Holland (obviously) and now my memory is getting fuzzy because managers and sales people are creeping in with all of the people I saw last night. An excellent tribute to all of those who were honored and also from the first class last year. And think of it, names like Tom Cuddy, Gary Berkowitz, Chuck Wilson, Tony Bristol, Ron St. Pierre, Larry Kruger, Gary Degraide, Mike Gorman, Ernie Anderson, Bob Cummings, Holland Cooke, and more could be in the next couple of year's class

I wish I could have attendes this event- I notice one of the postings say Big John Bina has been sick any ideas as to what is wrong? just wondering if this is why he is not doing the channel 12 traffic reports.

Big John has some sort of sleep disorder. Not life threatening, but still alters his life pattern. Hopefully he's on the road to recovery.

I reported it on the National Board last night. It didn't slip by me. I just didn't comment on it here. You are right. It is Big! I'll miss that guy. Tonight will probably be his last piece of work ever. Good time to roll tape!!!

Here -- in two parts, because SOME inductees can't seem to confine their remarks to the time allotted -- is Jimmy Gray, delivering his acceptance speech at the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame induction ceremony this past week:

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYE8T9u7FGI

How many more pieces of paper is Jimmy going to pull out of his pocket. hahaha. Part one is over and I don't even have time to play part 2 now. I have to leave the house for a bit. That was freaking hilarious. Not many things on the internet make me laugh out loud. But I laughed out loud with every slip of paper that he took out and read from. When I come back later tonight and click on part two, Do you realize how hard I am going to laugh if he's still pulling out pieces of paper from his pockets. This video has been divided up perfectly for my entertainment. I can't wait to click on part two later. That was a joy to watch.
